Thanked: 169Nelson made what I felt was a very generous trade for another stone. It's not the kind of thing I would have ever bought otherwise. All you need to do is search me on any given razor forum to see the stones I typically go for...

Thanked: 169I don't take anything personally, but there's no reason to point fingers at people who are providing experiences to answer a question someone posed... I thought that was the point here.. RAS I did start a thread awhile back because it's a really inclusive site as far as hones go so I put up a placeholder I could add to as I lived with it.

Thanked: 1936My intent was not to hurt any of your feelings, just to clarify a few things. Enjoy your stones

Thanked: 169So, just so there's no confusion..
If you're new to all of this, have no finisher and want one: Buy an unlabeled thuringian, or a trans arkansas oilstone and set it up properly, a hybrid coticule if you can source one, or a high grit synthetic solution..
If you already have a high end finisher or two and are happy with them and don't have much disposable income: Then by all means save your money.... It won't be some magic bullet that is markedly better than celebrated vintage solutions.
If you have disposable income, have other finishers, but want a finisher that you don't have to play with slurry and is not slow: This may be the ticket

Thanked: 169And I don't mind sham testing mine eventually, I want to clean one corner of the surface up a bit with lapping as I have been avoiding it during honing as it was a testing mule and wasn't cleaned up to a retail level. I never bothered as it wasn't slow but the finish Cris achieved has me intrigued.

That's what I like to hear! Honestly...I've learned so much from the things you all have posted, and have always tried to build on what I've learned and share it back. If something I've done has piqued your interest, I'm guaranteed to learn more from our combined experiences with it than I ever would have with just my own.

Thanked: 169I kind of feel like bringing it to lapidary in the diamond district here in nyc since there is one guy who will lap rock and it just looks like it will be brutal.
Follow up, just called and it's slightly too large . I will just order some sic... No way in hell am I doing that just on paper...Last edited by kcb5150; 09-28-2015 at 10:10 PM.

Thanked: 169I ordered some loose 220 sic. I actually just fed it a sheet of 120 to force the issue and it is actually flat across. I'll clean up the factory scratches on that one corner when it arrives and delete the one ultra shallow pit I have been avoiding. Then I will polish it on fixed medium so. It's harder than arkansas oilstone, kind of horrifying.
