Stones are like razors for me. I wouldn't mind trying every make and model at least once.

You sound a lot like myself. I don't think that you having no interest in Japanese naturals it is just that you cannot justify to yourself getting one. I am happy with what I have and to get another I would have to justify the expense/risk of getting another. I pick up any hone I can get my hands on that might be a razor hone I find for under $10 [maybe a little more if it is interesting] A few hours of fun seeing if it is any good or not is worth it to me. My wife gives me a hard time because I stop at rock cuts along the road on vacation for samples that might make a good hone....
This is a good point but it also leaves open experimenting with other things.

Har har, I've been a Rockhound since I've been 5 years old. I used to go to this old cemetery and collect Devonian fossils there (not the human kind).
I never met a rock I didn't like.
As far as hones go I don't really collect them. I have a few synthetics, a couple Japanese Naturals and a few other naturals and that's about it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 98The only stone I still lack is a premium finisher, the suehiro 20k is very popular, might be I will stop trying to find an Thuringian, overpriced to much for me, the VALUE is NOT there.
Some guys like to hone out on a slurry size stone, I say screw that!. Yep, bad mood tonight, some topics get my goat.Last edited by FAL; 10-30-2015 at 01:03 AM.

Well if your looking for a 3"x 8" rectangular hone in the world of coveted naturals your going to pay through the nose for those dimensions no matter what it is. Decent sized unlabeled thuringian bouts can still be found for less than a 100 bucks and can be every bit as good as a celebrated water hone or whatever brand floats your boat.
About what stones I have no interest in are the 3-6k ish mid range naturals because they have no place in my honing regimen at the moment. But I never say never my tastes evolve and if one day I get to try one and like it, I'll jump on that bandwagon.Last edited by Razorfaust; 10-30-2015 at 04:50 AM.
