Can be difficult to use the search function but a few threads exist.

Thanked: 0ok, I have been working on my razor tonight, Got that edge nice and straight on the 1k, then I used the 4k to remove the 1k and 8k to remove the 4, then stropped and just had a VERY nice comfortable shave with it as is. I have cleaned the blade and have given it 50 passes on the 12k and have a bit of a reflective surface but not a mirror, is a mirror finish possible on 12 k or should I use paste for a mirror finish? is a mirror finish even required or make any difference?

Do you want to please your skin or your eyes?
Make sure you do not create a wire edge when you are chasing the elusive mirror finish.Last edited by Kees; 01-13-2016 at 08:54 PM.

Thanked: 0haha that answers my question then, mirror isnt really important. I finished on a 12k hone and got a very nice shave (My closest yet) with no iritation. Would there be an advantage to using chromium oxide after the 12k?

Thanked: 481I've honed and rehoned all 4 of my razors on various finishers from B.hones to Welsh Slates, to the PHIG, to Arkansas stones and the Norton 8k. I've discovered I can get a close, clean, and comfortable shave from all of the above without paste. I might come back around to it later, but as of right now I've stopped using CrOx.

Thanked: 0Ok, I figure that finishing with CRox is a matter of prefference so I have put some on order from the invisible edge, and ill give it a go. My shaves are so much sweeter than before now so if CRox can make it a little better then bonus but if not no harm no foul. The edge is getting more and more polished as I shave though. I have just Gave the dovo 20 laps on the 12k to refresh a very slightly dull edge and gave that a quick test and thats now performing like before (With a hazey mirror)
Checked both under the microscope and the cheap blade seems to hold its edge fairly well and as expected the dovo is just superb
