Ok so here is the generic brand Hone 400o and 8000 grit This was brought from ebay and is supposed to be for straight razors

Here is the 600 and 1000 grit master class "tool" hone

Here is the cheap Razor by Creative edge

Thi is the edge as seen through 40X magnification though through the camera you cant really see that.

    And the other side.

The bevel seems fine (set using 4000 grit) Idid a final pass making 45 degree stroke away from the edge (this was to get all the "stiria" in the same direction) I have now done about 20 laps on the 8000 grit at 90 degrees from the edge ( there are now no 45 degree angles left) and can shave arm hair somewhat with it.
Looks like we've been discussing for a couple of days the creation of a mirror finish on a razor-shaped object using a generic Chinese brick sold as an 8K hone.

It was stated Earlier that these were generic and I believed a combination to be norton but was wrong on that

OK just for an update. The cheap razor does hold a fairly good edge. I was able to have a shave last night. It was pretty decent. Not as close as I like and I did notice a dull section down on the heel so my bevel isn't quiet right just gonna wait till I get the microscope now

Just for reference. Classic hand tools no longer off discounts here as there prices are already competitive. But I guess that depends what you call competitive lol

using some oxide paste on an old strop I just strop from time to time and shave some hair and each time the shave is a little better. I am getting the norton combi 4k 8k just waiting till pay day as I am skint since christmas. when the microscope gets here, i will post some pics of the blade and then I will get it "as good as" using what I have, then when the nortons get here go again and see how much better (or not) the results are.

Ok, my microscope has arrived, to be honest I am a little underwhelmed by it, but here it goes.

That's better magnification than I have from my loupe, so I wouldn't call it a mistake. Also, there is a significant amount of chipping on that edge. Looks like a candidate to go back to 1k so you can work those out.

Yeah I noticed the chipping too. Thanks for the feedback on the scope

OK everyone I have just ordered a 4k 8k combo norton. Can't wait for it to get here. I am for the time been going to set the bevel on the cheaper stones and the use the norton essentially as a finishing stone

Nice one, remember to watch the video I prayed a few days ago it's about using the Norton 4/8. The technique is very easy to follow and is usually successful without any deviation required
