This is all very interesting. My compliments to those involved in the revival of this stone. To Viergedefer: as many people might want to use both sides of this stone with different finishes, I wonder if it is possible to tell us what type of adhesive is used to attach the label so that it could be reattached in a fitting manner.

Here are mine, these were the first samples i received from Nicolas from the Material we sourced. These were used for the first evaluation and comparison to the vintage material.
I always wanted something special, and actually iam sure there are not many stones around with 30cm lenght...i still need one with a label

Thanked: 556Correction to my previous post - the razor was a Schulze, not a Claus.
Took two more razors from coticule to la Lune - a Boker King Cutter and a Wosty Pipe razor, both 5/8 and both vintage, but in very nice shape.
As before, both were shaving well beforehand. I just wanted to see if my initial observations were replicated with other razors.
Started with milky slurry on the coti and worked through to a naked stone diluting with glycerine in water. Used the glycerine in water only on la Lune. BTW - I’ve decide that “the la Lune” is redundant and do not want to use “the Lune” so will stick with the French “la Lune”.
Both razors tree-topped arm hairs before stropping. I did not try HHT since my head hairs are to sparse to spare and the others are too curly (form your own conlusions )
Stropped 70 times on Japanese leather and shaved half my face with each razor using the same shaving cream and brush as before.
Both razors gave a very nice 2-pass BBS shave.
I’m not convinced the edge is better than what I can achieve with my Vermio (vendor claims it is equivalent to 12-15K). La Lune does not degrade my coticule edge. It does seem to be a tad keener after using la Lune and not any less smooth, but I need to do this a few more times to be sure.
It is a nice stone on which to hone.
I hone with the coti and la Lune in my palm. The feedback is similar to what I am used to from the coticule, maybe a bit more pronounced because my coti is a 6” x 2” natural combination stone about 1.5” thick and la Lune is about the same length and width, but much thinner.
I’m still satisfied with la Lune and look forward to squeezing as much as I can from it. So far, with my small sample of German and British razors, coticule followed by la Lune seems to be a keeper progression.Last edited by DZEC; 05-23-2021 at 08:15 PM.

Picked up one of these rocks. I just hadn't bought a Hone in a year or more and wanted to treat myself. So Here is my La Lune. It arrived yesterday and I'm putting a little sealer on the label side just to be safe and to protect it from the box I will make for it.
With a splash of water...
It really is browner in color in my eyes. Not much of a purple color but it did come with a large rubber stone for slurry. I will finish the sealing of the label and then make a box for it. Thought after the 12k it might be a nice Natural finisher. I'd rather try it with some slurry but time will tell.
I've been playing with my Trans Ark and the different grit of finishes on it and have found that the 800 grit W/D paper then a little burnishing makes my Trans Ark give a Keen but Smooth edge. Hoping this might act the same or at least give a different feel. Oh well, I can make up lots of reasons to buy a new hone. But in the end, it was because I wanted one.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Nice Jerry. What's the size of your new stone. I have been interested and curious of these stones for some time now. The only finishers I have are a 12k Nani and Jnats, so some variety might be good and also push me further down the rock rabbit hole.

Mine is 2 x 6. Closer to 2 3/8 x 6 and 5/8 thick. Its really a nice size. I might have went for a bout but i bought from 1stone.fr and they didnt give exact stones sizes on the bouts so i went for a standard size i enjoy.
I like a keener edge than most. So im hoping that this stone gets me in that area. It's just Sharpening, right?

Hi All
It's Nicolas from 1Stone, nice to see member use the french history of "La Lune" .
Nowadays i use a new process : i make all stone on a oven with light oil on them at very light temperature, then I clean them judiciously.
This gives them a very red or purple color. To remind you: what is red or purple does not change anything on the grit of the stone.
Do not hesitate to use it this way after an 8K (coticule or others) :
Passage X with slurry, then dilution until clean water + stone and at the end a stroke with oil / glycerin and a few passages also .
The result will be better with a softer edge.
It's up to you !!! and thanks to you
