I touched up two Ralf Aust razors on La Lune. I used a thin slurry on one, gradually diluting
to water only. On the other, I used water + glycerin, as Viergedefer suggested. I stropped them
both on linen and Roo. Then I shaved half my face with each, for comparison.

Both versions gave me a close, comfortable shave, with little or no irritation. I have to say, however,
that I think that Viergedefer got it exactly right:

....the description made by Griffith is the good one, because it is my description on my site. So perfect !
Now I want to try honing La Lune with oil, and compare the result with a couple of other natural finishers
that I'm familiar with: Black Arkansas and Blue/green Escher. More on that later.

In the meantime, I'm happy with the stone, and I'm pretty sure that it will fit in my progression
somewhere between a Naniwa 12K and an Arkie, or maybe a Zulu Gray.

I'm just a hobby honer, so take this for what it's worth. I need to spend more time with La Lune,
    that's for sure.

congratulations and thank you for your test feedback. Indeed it is a stone that is relatively dense, and not so easy to use

But you have taken up the challenge very easily with the right protocol of use.

This is the bout I got. Really like the size and shape for hand honing too. The HHT has been really good with this stone. The edges have been very nice. Smooth and skin friendly with both water or water Glycerin. Still testing to see what works best with what razors. I found on my old dip toe the water worked better, while on more modern I did better with water/Glycerin.

    Interesting casket-like profile.

I see that both the labelled side and the unlabelled side have chamfered edges.

Were both sides lapped as well?

Just thinking of using oil on one side and water/glycerine on the other. Would have to remove the label of course.

Looks like both are the same and my guess is Nicolas treats both sides the same then puts the label on one side. I am not an oil guy though and find that the right concentration of water/glycerin mimics oil very well. Also I believe these stones are very dense and would not absorb oil so I think one can use oil and just wash off with soap and water or simple green afterwards.

Yes i did a lot of testing, i tried to soak up Oil from 1h, 6h and 24h. Then i tried to check how good the material absorbs the oil. After washing the stone 2 times with dish soap water it was possible to re-use the stone with water again. The material is very dense and it seems not to soak the oil into the stone.

Mine arrived from Griffiths today. I’ll report back when I have a chance to unwrap and use it.

HaHa, i had a feeling your HAD would get the better of you Dave. Well done Sir. Now my wife might think about it on the grounds that lots of other guys have them.

I can dream can't I? I'll probably end up getting a secret one.
