Wow what an exceptionally nice stone, Gary! Thank you for sharing
On the topic of "toxic" su; of course I know what they are.
I was just wondering if you could actually feel them, or just see negative effects like scratches on the bevel or microchips.
I heard the term scratchy many times and never quite understood if this means the honing sensation or the look of the bevelLast edited by Lesslemming; 08-28-2011 at 07:59 AM.

Anyway, to answer your question: Yes, I could definitely feel them both by running my finger over the hone surface and through the razor when honing. I liken them to pot-holes in the surface of the road, and every time I "drove" over them I could feel the smooth feel of the hone give way to a scratchy, skittery-type sensation. There was a corresponding effect on the edge, often in the form of microchipping or similar (I did not have my microscope at that point, so it was a little difficult to see the specific issue).
This stone has been kind of an ongoing saga with me for the last 2 or 3 years (cannot remember quite when I bought it). Every 3 - 6 months I would drag it out and lap it, then put it away in disgust. I bought that asagi a few months after I got the suita, so it was not such a big issue as I had a better stone to play with, but it bugged me.
But happily, after digging around in them a bit with various things (a nail, usually) and copious amounts of lapping, about 2 or 3 months ago I managed to find a layer that was smooth underfoot! And I am quite pleased I persevered because just from the handful of razors I have tried on it, it seems like it could be a very nice stone.

Thanked: 6I got my Ozuku Asagi Lv 5 fines 5+ stone in this weekend.
It's a great stone and I have several J-nats, some from people with a good reputation (old school) some from people with a lesser reputation. Although I have harder J-nats than the Ozuku this one delivers the smoothest edges and I'm extremely happy with it.
The other plus is Maxim himself
He answers you questions quickly
His prices are great
He ships fast
He knows stones!
I wouldn't hesitate buying from him again. Thank you Maxim.

Thanked: 19^ If you have anothet hone harder than what I've seen as Lv 5+, it must be made of unobtanium, or kryptonite, or anti-matter, or something...!
