Thanked: 286i just shaved again tonight of my ozuku kiita karusu. i can defanatley say i'm getting with the grain, the closest shave i have ever had from a stone . i'm not sure how these stones give this kind of performance, but my j nat is just so easy to work with and works very well. I've heard a couple of members say nothing rivals the j nat, i took it with a pinch of salt. now i have tryed one and own one, i have to say i agree with them. i would sy te sharpness is very similar to a shavette , de blades, but still better on the skin and does'nt leave the irritation that de's can lead to. i'm well impressed.

The Shoubudani Max is holding for me is level 5+--probably will be out of this world once I get paid & can actually take delivery. Can't wait to use it on my TI (after I finish fixing the factory bevel)! Might have to sell some stuff to buy it sooner, but it'll be worth it!

Thanked: 46Recently I recived this stone 155x50x20 from JNS (photos are few posts up). Untill now I was exclusively Coticule user and I want to go one step up (more sharpeness but the same time to keep smootheness which Coticule provide) so I decide to go with Ozuku Kiita.
I have to say that I and Maxim work together on finding stone that will perfectly suits my needs and Maxim is a great guy with lot of knoweledge.
I decide to give the shoot to the hone on two of my razors (Mastro Livi and Wacker "Stosser" Mod.4 Wedge).
Both razors was previously honed on Coticule but they was somewhat lack in sharpeness. I know that they can be more especially Mastro Livi.
Maxim send Tomonagura stone with Ozuku Kiita also.
My procedure was as follows (I have to say that I develop technique which is best for me but that does not mean that you can not go in different direction):
-after final honing on Coticule I raise very light slurry with Tomonagura on Ozuku Kita (7-8 rubbing with Tomonagura)
-I did about 30-40 laps and then start to dilute for another 30-40 laps (I add 1-2 drops of water every 10 laps)
-when finished razor was able to pass HHT test but I know that it can be better so I continue as follows
-I rinse razor and hone well and hit linen side of my Kanayama strop for about 10 laps
-after that I did 20 laps on hone just with water
-repeat last two steps for 3-4 times
-finally I did about 30 laps on linen and 30 laps on leather side of the strop
Shaving......What to say? Just amazing. Razor glide over the skin as never before and provide one of the best shaves in my life. The skin stays as before shaving, no irritation, no burn when AS was applied. So, my full recomendations if you are looking stone for entering in world of JNats. In the end I can say that is start of one excellent friendship with JNats....
Thank you

Thanked: 286the japaneese stone , certainly gives a closer shave than my coticules. my coticules give a very forgiving nice /smooth shave, i would say they both work well together. the one thing i noticed straight away was the level of close ness. , i've got anoter dovo special to test, its a brandnew razor, factory edge shaved , but was'nt all that smooth. i've honed that razor purley on coticule. i no for a fact this wil now shave 5x better . then i will hit the jap stone for my usaul slurry to water or misty slurry on j nat. After that i intend to finish on y escher with light slurry, just to see how this works, sham does this progression, with ice edges, i will see how that goes.

I liked the edge off the Jnat so much I sold my Thuringian. I really didn't use it all that much because the Coti edge was so nice. The Jnat certainly brings the edge up a notch or two. I really loving the edge I'm getting using the Coti as a prefinisher and the Ozuku Asagi as a finisher.

Thanked: 1587There's lots of roads that lead to a good edge. My current preference, just to add to the present list, generally takes one of two forms (depending on my mood) after setting the bevel:
(1) Norton 4 -> 8; Escher; shapton 16K; Nakayama asagi
or
(2) Norton 4 -> 8; tiawanese stone; Narutaki; Oozuku suita; Nakayama asagi
I tried adding my coticules in there in the past, but they really didn't add too much to the mix for me, especially when I finish on that asagi. I do like mucking around with the cotis, but when I just want to get the job done quickly and well, those two progressions are what I go to.
But, like everything, YMMV.
Some beautiful looking stones in here by the way. Jnats are definitely an itch that needs to be scratched!

Thanked: 286i will certainly try that, just i've seen sham use escher after j nat , , may be he likes edge of escher. to be fair i probabbly won't feel much differance , as j nat seems to be all i'd need. i'd just like to use them all, if i can..

Thanked: 286i have a norton, and i will try it again some time, but i realy find i can do every thing on my coticule in 15 minutes, then go to j nat , i like to go throug the whole process the natural way. having said that i would mind trying the coti 12k naniwa then j nat, i could ee that being a nice way to finish
