I picked this one as a curiosity. Tomonagura. I looked and googled but couldn't find another one like it. If any of the Jnat experts have any info on it I would appreciate it. Is it real? Did Iwasaki had tomonaguras stamped for him?
The top of the stone is pretty oxidized and the whole thing smells like it was left in an attic for 100 years. Looks like a kiita iromono. The small maruka and the pure authentic honyama stamp are both blue.
I was told that the middle line translates as small size honyama.

    can you post pics?

The top left stamp is the Kyoto Stone Association stamp.
    Next to it "Nakayama"
The one on the bottom is "Top quality product"

Alex, Ive seen a few of the Iwasaki stamped before, they usually go for top dollar. I have also seen Iwasaki stamped tenon toshi.
Kousuke Iwasaki and Nagayuki Asano developed a quality-control system for grading and authenticating Mikawa Nagura. Im going out on a limb here and saying the stamped ones are specialy selected ones.

I am liking that stone a lot and I did not realize that Iwasaki-san had a hand in marketing stones.

Years ago Maksim met with Iwasaki and asked about the Iwasaki stamped stones, Iwasaki said that he had nothing to do with them.
Who knows where the truth is though.

Gents, I am split on this one. I would like to believe it's the real McCoy but the fact that somebody like Alex G hasn't seen one makes me very suspicious. If those were sold then they should be around. Would they put the Maruka stamp on a tomo? On the other hand that paper box is old and would somebody at that time in Japan place the Iwasaki trademark on a box and sell it? And if they did, wouldn't they make more than one?
If any of you guys with connections to Japan could ask about it when you talk to your sources there i would appreciate that very much.

I believe it was the elder Iwasaki, Kousuke sensei who did the stone research & marketing so for Shigeyoshi san to say he had nothing to do with them could be accurate

@ alex1921 : Don't stress too much. Does the stone perform ideally for you ? That's the main thing.
It's probably hard to fake the 100 year old attic smell

The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Yeah that smell is something. Performance I don't know. It's sitting idle in a drawer for now.
