Well i dont know your experience with honing but i know sham is quite experienced, on the same note he also said that CF and
LI are not suited for razors, witch trouble me!!

LOL! The truth hurts. Too funny. Well i will have to say that there are FAR MORE people have success than ther are people failing with them. Since i dont think there are huge diff in quality of stone. This based on our test and many others experience with them. So i feel it is more a matter of personal taste. Also maybe not enough time to figure out the stone. Just based on Shams personal view i would not dismiss these stone.

Same here. Not sure why he feels that. I do know Lynn love the CF.

I was just going through the other thread. Sham did not say that all CF are not suitable for razors. He said 95% are. Since it is a natural stone im sure there are some with impureities. That is prob what he ment with that. He is the one who sent one for Lynn to play with.

Actualy Sham said that 95% of CF are not sutable for finishing straight razors. If I am not mistaken he is not satisfied with the magority of coticules as finishers either. His standards for shave ready are some what higher than most. I know from experiance that my standards changed dramaticly after I shaved with a razor honed by Sham. I greatly respect Sham's knowledg on hones and honeing and I have learned a lot from him. I will admit that some times what he has to say gets lost in translation and it takes me a little while to figure out what he realy means. That could be the case here. I know in the past that he has told me CF is a good finisher.

Yea i think 95% is a bit high. Im sure there are some not good for razors. But the majority are. I have not shaved with a razor from sham as of yet. At least i dont think so. But i do set my standards high. I have sensative skin so irritation is not allowed and i need to be BBS in 2 passes not 3.

I dont know why someone would say that coticules are not good finisher when so many loves them, in Europe mostly in France,
the coticule honing followed with pasted strops is the norm. And that 5 out of 100 CF are no good for razors!!

I have sensative skin as well as a corse beard. The first time I shaved with a razor honed by Sham was a real eye opener. It was like shaving with a velvet squeegee. It was the smoothest most comfrotabe shave I had ever had withe a straight razor. My face is spoiled now and I am not satisfied with any thing less.
By the way I just have to say that I love your avitar. It all ways brightens my day when I see it.

I agree that a razor honed on a coticule followed by a pasted strop leave a very nice edge but them it is the pasted strop that is the finisher and not the coticule.

I'm shure that Sham has owned and tested far more CFs than most people will ever even see and as a relult he has far more experianc with them than most. I guess that I am one of the lucky ones. I only have one CF and it leaves a very nice edge using slurry as best as I recall. It has been a long time since I last used it. I like my eschers and jnats better. I don't recall using oil on it though and that is said to be the best way to get a realy good finish from one.

Well my face didn't "drink the cool aid" and I'm getting great results from the LM and WT with no irritation and I've also got a great Coticule and an Y/G Escher, so I can and have done comparisons. Maybe the tester has drunk the cool aid on his finishers

I never heard of anybody using slurry on a CF, and once again makes no sense what so ever.Im sure Sham tested more CF then most, but do you really think that all of us here using CF are full of it, i think not........ I dont know how many members here who
used a CF but im definately sure that its a lot more then Sham tested.
