Pulling this "clinic" together in one thread is, as others have said and I'm sure all have thought, very helpful.

Thank you for taking the time and effort.

Thank you so much for the time and effort.
The pictures surely opened up my eyes and now clarify what I could not see.
I was very heavy handed on the strop and when I backed off the pressure my edges improved.

About the first pics of overhoned edge , burr and ect.
I stole / learn / this tric from an old barber along with a beatifull natural combo coticule La Dresante , and 2 corundum barber hones .
When you thing that the rasor it is almost ready in the sharpening , pre finishing stage , slide the edje of the blade gently 2 or 3 times accros /trought /the the neil of your finger , in a way to lave a slightly invisible marks , and this remouves the burr and kill the edge also .So do it lightly and go again to an 8000 grit or a coti for 5 min touching and the razor is ready for final polishing and adjustment . It works every time , so dont be conserned about the burr or overhoning.
Honing the razors right is hole different kind of science or an art , that come in the process of honing and practice .

A different POV using lower mag. These 2 pics are at 20x.
An incomplete bevel & same razor with finished edge

Yes, I think I see that, was just about to ask a question when I looked again...the "teeth" like looking marks on the first pic signify the incomplete bevel? Would that be correct?

Yes. They could also be indicative of earlier grinding or heavy pressure but clearly the shaded section at the edge has not seen the hone.
Also if the other side was fully formed it would start to burr over as it would be getting too much honing.

thanks for the useful thread. i just ordered myself one off of ebay. hopefully this will be what i need to get my honing to the next level. my 30 and 60x loupe just aren't doing the trick. it's nice to know what to look for.

As I said , I only use an 8 or 10x loupe when honing but using the scope can help you determine what to look for with the lower mags.
