Thanked: 18Would it be too much to ask to get 10x versions of the above so we can get a better idea of what we should look for?

Though not quite 10x, he DID post some pics of an edge at 20x magnification earlier in the thread:

Maybe you just hadn't gotten that far into the thread, yet?Decades away from full-beard growing abilities.

This is why honing is like trading the stock market. You don't rely on one indicator.
Learn all the tests & don't rely on just one, ie visual. I know I use my loupe a lot so my hypocrisy knows no bounds but I can interpret TNT & TPT just as easily. The loupe is just another confirmation.
At 10x you're pretty just looking for a non ragged edge off the 1 k with scratches all the way to the edge & no anomoalous reflections off the edge.
Sounds simple but it is a learned process thru much repetition. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Looks like we are in the presence of "fresh meat".
Kidding aside, since you two are both located in Sydney, maybe Mr. Onimaru can show you a few things in person? Like the value of magnification higher than 10x?Decades away from full-beard growing abilities.
