The seller wasn't sure, but he said that the line etched into one side was likely so the barber used the same side each time, which would likely be the reason it's not worn equally. I'll get it out first and see about flattening. It still has a decent amount of thickness even at the thinnest point. I'm not worried about saving the dust, I have two very large slurry stones, and it just seems like more effort than its worth to try and save it. Thanks for the tips.

It's was glued in there, but the hammer trick worked like a charm. Flattening will commence shortly.Name: 1447443612495.jpg

Using a BBW/Coti on loan from a friend and a Blue/Green Escher. Shaves are OK. Still a lot to learn about nats.

If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Here's some Palmera's all done up and ready for the big dance.

One layer of tape on Palmera's, Vintage J-nat barber hone with some blush to it, those are Alex's words.

Yes, “Odd Stria” or diagonal stria reaching the edge will leave a larger chip and weaker edge. Cut a loaf of bread at 90 degrees and again on a 45 degree bias. The piece can be almost 50 percent larger.

Circles will remove metal quickly because of cross grain grinding. It is a good way to set a bevel after correction or to remove heavy 1k stria when moving up in grits. 20-40 circles on a 3 or 4k will help removing deep 1k stria quickly then remove the circular or diagonal stria with even straight or X strokes to get a straighter edge.

The edge will not get very straight until after the 8k, so just make sure you are honing to the edge, the heavy stria is removed and is even and uniform. Removing the edge with a jointing stroke and resetting on the next stone will make a straighter, stronger edge.
What is a jointing stroke? Ok, used the Advanced Search box.

Joining stroke is when you kill the edje gently on your thumb or on a piece of wood or a piece of bone or horn
In this case it is a matter of doing it on the hone itself maybe . I think that this is something Whriten by Iwasaki in his booklet

You are going to love that "green brick". It does great without slurry & if with it...depending on the blade and quickness of steel you are wanting to remove.
