This razor is stamped "GOLD BEETLE" on the front and "MANGANESE" on the back. Where's it from and who made it? We'll probably never know for sure. It's very well made though and took a nice tiny little bevel. If I had to guess I would say it's Japanese. I've not touched my Nortons for quite some time, but I decided to give them a go. I got my Naniwa Super Stones a few years ago and didn't looked back(until today). I was going to finish on the Coticule but decided to just leave it at 8K. Funny thing about the Norton is it seems to give a better edge then it did a few years ago. I guess these stones get better with age.

My bet would be Germany where they also made Gold Bugs. Must be related

Hahaha. No Tom, that one was honed up months ago and was a 'best' full hollow. This was a restore I did recently of a 'half hollow'. It was a light restore but it left corrosion at the edge and a tiny bit of "crumbly" steel that had to be honed through. Luckily it didn't go too deep and the Washita made quick work of it while not taking off too much steel.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

First Class Edge
Honed my Wade & Butcher Full Hollow today.
This blade looked beyond repair when it came to me with really deep pits. Now its my go to for testing new Naguras or honing techniques.
Chosera 1K . Bevel set with very light pressure and killed the edge on my thumb nail twice.
Then on to the Nakayama with a full progression using my most effective Naguras.
Finished with a DMT slurry which was dried at the end and given maybe 10 slow laps.
Also given 20 laps on suede , 51 laps on linen and finally 51 laps on Cordovan .
Just shaved with this blade and was blown away. At first I questioned if it was actually cutting hair because it felt so smooth.
I will pat myself on the back and take a bow in front of a full length mirror haha.
Pics below: Hones and Microscopic pic of the edge..
Thanks..Joe

Here's a Russian Mars razor circa 1960s. Good steel but a poor uneven grind.
One layer of tape used to bevel set on Chosera 1K. Expose fresh steel to let you see what you are working with. Reset bevel with out tape.
Final finish on Nakayama Mizu Asagi. Looks good, satin finished edge similar to Joe's above post. Thanks for the excellent edge pic, bravo. Shave test pending.

My Naniwa 12K arrived this week so I decided to hone a few razors. Previously I could only go as high as a Norton 8K. A couple of the razors had not been honed since I acquired them and I started with the Naniwa S1000 and progressed through the Norton 4K, Norton 8K, and Naniwa 12k on them. The others were just touched up on the 12k and stropped with CrOx and leather.
For a rookie, I'm happy with the results. I did a test shave with two of them and was ok with one and very pleased with the other. I still have a lot to learn, but am having fun[emoji1]
