Some new stuff to me, a F.W.Engels 7/8+ and Deep Cut strop.Honed with DMT1200 & this coticule shown.Razor came dull as ever and and is ready to go pretty quick.Mk32 for size comparison and all around great piece.Hopefully the Engels will be a smooth shaver for Christmas day as only I spent about 20 min on it.Happy Holidays.

Just finished shaving with the Yutaka for the umpteenth holiday party this year. Took a fine edge and super silent as it’s a 1/4 hollow. Been shaving with full and extra hollows for a while I forgot how quiet shaving can be.
The blade in the pressed horn, looks gorgeous. You should fix up the scales to match it. They are so deserving it. JMO

I agree. I need to practice some more before I go for it. I have a few other presses horn scales I can play with.

Do you know what they may have looked like originally? Any background color? I can’t see any evidence of it. I have another blade pressed with Philadelphia Works on it as well but the condition is about the same. Again no evidence of any color infill.

    Same again tonight.
    George Butler with Ebony scales.

This one had a frown but being a half hollow it took some work and then a full Nagura progression on the Nakayama.

I think this has one has a special edge, the HHT was off the charts.

Wouldn't know till after sanding a bit, but they look black.

Always in moderation. No like in my youth, just for sippin, now. Getting alcohol poisoning, ain't no fun anymore.

It takes all day to drink a bottle, now. And that's only reserved for new years, if my guts are willing.

    Red face

Today I've rehoned the 6/8 "Finest Silver Steel" (no clue what is the manufacturer) on the Quartzite, finished on YG/B-Thuringian.

I've checked the steps on my (cheap) microscope (160x) and have taken some pictures by my mobile phone through the ocular.
The pictures are of low quality and are more or less usable in the middle of the frames, at the corners some optical issues (I guess its a sort of spherical abberiation) seem to occur.

    1. Dulled the Edge on the side of the Quartzitze

    2. Created creamy slurry on the Quartzite using small DMT card and worked the edge back to pass the 3-fingers-test. I didn't watched the time, guess this stage has taken around 20-25 minutes. I've refreshed the slurry for 2 thimes. halfstrokes and x-strokes have been applied.

    3. Refreshed the slurry and done a session of spine leading X-strokes for about another 10 minutes (refreshed the slurry one time)

After stropping the blade on linen the edge has passed HHT3 (catch&pop) to HHT4 (pop).

    4. Now I've created new slurry using small piece of Cretan hone on the Quartzite. Was surprised how does Quartzite eat the hard Cretan hone .
AfterAnother session of spine-leading X-strokes (slurry was refreshed one time) the edge has looked like this:

HHT - test has surprisingly fallen back to HHT1 (violin) to HHT3 (maybe bad stropping).

    5. Washed up the Quartzite stone and have done another run for spine-leading x-strokes on plain water.

    6. Created some milky slurry on the shallow convex YG/B-Thuringian hone and have done some sets of edge leading X-strokes, slowly diluted the slurry to plain water and stroped on linen.

HHT has jumped to HHT5 on almost all regions of the edge.

Will do leather stropping and test-shaving today later or tomorrow.

    Regards

    Philipp
