What a beautiful stone. It reminds me of a Great Lakes agate.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

A couple of Sheffields. Thinking they were high-angle honed or something. Bevels not nearly meeting.
The Rodgers heavy wedge took forever on the 1k Chosera. 1 layer of tape and lots of work left me a long way to the edge, so that layer was worn down thin and then another on top. After another pile of work, half of the edge was meeting, so a third layer on top of the 2 worn-out ones. Wore that one down getting a tpt to pass, so went out and lapped the hone again and kept things there until hairs were popping.
Pretty much the same experience on the Wade and Butcher rattler. Only 2 worn layers for it.
Several progressive bevels there, but was necessary to get a reasonable bevel.
I expect 50 laps each on the Naniwa 1k smoothed things out.

On to the Norton. I have avoided pains like this for a long time...

I have learned through wasting a lot of time don't hide something and rely on memory. Have a place for everything you have and putit
back in that place after use. You will save a lot of frustration.

Tom-I'm impressed by the relatively thin, even bevels you managed to put on those beasts! I've got a couple of similar problem-child Sheffields I'm hoping to get to over the Christmas break, both with wonky spine/bevel planes. Those are never my favorite honing jobs, but they're the ones where we learn the most on, no?

Been waiting for a Bengall in good shape for a fair price.
Took a bit of patience. Glad I waited. This one is a right nice piece of kit.
Sheffield steel seems to like the Arkie.
Hope everyone has a good holiday season.
    Ken
