Slowly cleaning up a Thornhill set and dug out this stone and strop today for my Sunday shave. The more I use this stone, the better the edges get.The thought of using a razor made in the 1800's, possibly 150 years old, makes my day.

Here's something else to chew on...

The razor is 150 + yrs. old. Now ask yourself, how old, is the rock you honed it on.

Nothing as impressive as what was previously posted today, but new for me.

Touched up my Wostenhome Celebrated IXL using a Tsushima black nagura to raise some mud on a Vermio. Did a succession of rolling X-strokes diluting the slurry. Finish strokes with glycerin and water.

I've been wondering about those Vermios, David. I believe they are sold at Superior Shave IIRC. How does a Vermio edge compare to other natural finishers?

I got my Vermio from Griffiths Shaving Goods.

The only naturals I have to compare it with is a Jnat Oozuko and a natural combo coticule. I find the Vermio less finicky, maybe because it is a larger stone. The end results seem to be amount the same, especially now that I used the same nagura on each.

I do think finishing on the Vermio with glycerine created a “soft” yet keen edge more so than I can achieve on the Oozuko.

The Vermio definitely is a finisher and I get nice edges after using the coticule as a pre-finisher. I can shave with a coticule edge, but the Vermio takes it to another level of keenness without making it harsh.

Bottom line - I really like the Vermio. So much so that I haven’t even though about buying another finisher.

I had to use a sharpie to get the bevel angle right.

No tape and used the side of the hone with alternating edge leading and trailing strokes.
