Very good Jerry, it has a good amount of adjustment which is a good thing, it's very well made nicely put together, it will see much use.

Unknown maker, surely Sheffield, only marked ‘Superior Temper’. The steel is so hard and fine grained that it took over 2 hours with a slurried Shapton Glass 500 HR to recut the paste-rounded bevels. But the edge was straight and even, even at 500 grit. This old cast steel rocks. The bevel measured 16.6 degrees, so it got 2 layers of Kapton giving it about 17.5 degrees and the bevel width is about like original. Progression was 500, 1k,2k, 4k Shapton Glass HR, 6k Shapton Glass HC, then a rosy hard kiita with diamond plate slurry, followed by tomo slurry, the finally about 15 clear water strokes.

The edge was smooth but needed constant attention, that clear water finish may have reduced the ‘mildness’ a bit, so I’m going to refinish it with slurry before the next shave with it.

Noticed a slight fall-off in the level of sharpness of my Iwasaki, so I have decided to try a Nakayama edge, let us see how this one measures up to my normal 20K edge which I have always enjoyed.

Only difference I found was that everything happens quicker with the Gok 20. Virtually imperceptible difference in sharpness or comfort.

Two very nice vintage razors in today, the Bengall wedge looks to be in super condition including the original scales, that wedge willl make a sweet smooth shaver for sure.

The Wacker has a very delicate edge . Honed on the Debado 1k then onto my Ozuku ..The Penknife had a few laps on the 1k..

I'm starting to getting to grips with this Nakayama 5+ stone and the Nagura also cut from a very fine Nakayama, both were kindly gifted to me by a good friend from Japan, the edges are nice the one thing I'm not keen on is the faffing about with slurry and dilution plus the fact that naturals are much slower than synthetics.

But the smoothness that a natural brings out, is well worth the extra time and effort.

I find the synthetics to be a bit too crisp, for my liking.

Maybe try a full synthetic progression, then go back to the natural for a final finishing. Should only take an additional 5-10 minutes, in honing

Well actually... 3 or 4 light strokes on the Jnat , bone dry after the 20k should do it. Works with mine anyway

Agree.

I don’t have a lot of stones, but seem to have found the combination that makes me happy and gives me good 2 or 3 pass shaves.

My most often used progression is a 1k Shapton Kuromaku ceramic to set the bevel, Norton 4K/8K and then a coticule. Final polish is on a Vermio or OOzuku. Touch ups are on the coticule and CrOx on balsa.

HAD has not kicked in yet, except for 3 combination bbw/coticules.
