    Default Still romancing the stone

An all Arkansas progression with a new (to me) 4/8 Cadman Deluxe.

    Washita with slurry>Washita plain water>Soft Arkansas>Hard Arkansas>Translucent.

Test shave right off the stone proved smooth and close so I stropped and shaved and had a nice multi directional one pass shave.

    Bevel set ~15 minutes
Total time after bevel set ~ 25 minutes.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Very nice set of Arkansas stones. I particularly like the Translucent. Mine would appear to be its smaller malnourished brother

    From Zulu Grey's FAQ:

If you would like to create the same finish on the honing side of your Zulu Grey that it had when you received it, simply lap the hone to an acceptable finish say 600-1000 grit, then dry the hone completely and ‘polish’ the honing surface with a small piece of 1500 grit waterpaper (use it dry).

Instructions say: "If you cannot read these instructions, pack up hone and ship directly to Kaptain Zero who will take care of it for you."

No, no, no. That's why there's pictures. It clearly shows; Upon opening, while holding your hand over the new stone, shave a layer of your left palm off using a kitchen knife to christen before first use.

    Simple really...

Sand paper in stages - 320 grit, 600 grit, 1k, 2K. Then if I'm feeling frisky I'll rub it against other hones of varying grit until I have the polish I want.

Dragon's tongue on far left polished to 8K. PHIG right of that polished to the same. Lynn Melynllyn (purple Welsh slate) 3rd over from left was burnished on the PHIG after 8k, and the Welsh Slate on the far left was polished on the 8k, PHIG, and LM for an extremely smooth surface. Note that with a slick coat of water, they are literally reflective like a mirror. Careful use of their respective slurry stones should keep them that way.

You don’t need that level of polish, 325 to flat is good enough, they are slurry stones.

Just slurry, with the slurry stone and go.

You may want to compare them to an 8k, so you know where they fit in a progression.
