Thanked: 4826Optics is the very best indicator of progress and is very easy to learn how to use it.

30x lighted loupes are available for under $10.00 on eBay. I got a combination 30x and 60x for $8.00 shipped last year. Also, be very careful with your pressure - especially with a shoulderless blade. Have patience and let the hones do the cutting.

Thanked: 8That was one thing I noticed.it seemed like the blade was wanting to flex with the least pressure. So much so that the middle part of the bevel widened more then the rest with minimal pressure!

Thanked: 8I'm going to run to radio shack and see if they have any illuminated scopes I'm that range. Hopefully they have something that will allow me to see the bevel clearly, if not then I'll try ebay...I hate ebay.js.

Thanked: 8So going to try a progression with the circle method, little to no pressure, no slurry just water, with minimal strop passes, no cromox. Fingers crossed.lol

Bear in mind that the other term for the shoulder is 'stabilizer' and for good reason! A shoulderless blade, especially a full hollow grind, will be much more flexible than the same grind with a shoulder/stabilizer. The rule of no pressure is critical with these. How about one of these deals? Seems like decent magnification, and it's illuminated.
