Sounds like before you put the tape on you didn't have a properly set bevel. Seems it must have been close, if the results came that quick on the 2k with tape, though.

Thanked: 3Maybe next time I sharpen, I'll go to a layer of (presumably thinner) Scotch tape, in an effort to work my way down to a single bevel again.
It was affirming to be able to see the results of my honing efforts, and then feel the difference, all the way to the test shave.
But like I say, I didn't want to do the double bevel thing. I know from reading on the forum that some folks like them. Some don't. And others advocate a "micro bevel" for a second bevel, apparently attained through a much less aggressive procedure than what I did here.

I have found that scotch tape doesn't work when honing. The hone just eats right through it.

Thanked: 3Drat! I have messed myself, then. I'm guessing masking is about as thick as electrical pvc tape.
Maybe I'lll just have to reconcile myself to honing on the coffee table, while watching a movie for an evening. After the hair on my legs grows back. :-P

you need electrical tape. it is quite a bit thicker than any other tape (except maybe duct tape, but you dont want that because its uneven), include masking tape.
