Thanked: 433True if it was my first razor, but today after probably 100+ razors, I could watch a Lynn video and have a very good chance of at least getting sort of close. I didn't have the same hones as the video, but I do have comparable grit stones and a CrOx paddle. The shave test was very sharp and passed the HHT, but was harsh on the skin, sort of like a factory Dovo edge

Not in the video that JimR posted but......
in the notes below this MC video, "Comparing Shaves - Using A Standard Straight Razor"
First paragraph, last sentence. ~ 'Murray said his face burned for several hours after the shave.'
Maybe the razor needed more newspaper stropping but his system doesn't instil enough confidence for me to try it.
YMMV etc...The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I can't help but laugh, although a bit harsh. I might try your technique, after all, I can't say it will not work if I don't try it myself (including the ketchup). I have a shave ready filarmonica razor, I'll give it a try

I'm sorry for the price, I was trying to make a point. Thanks but, not interested. I already know enough about sharpening razors, knifes, axes and swords, and I would rather learn what I already don't know from someone who knows what he is doing. And, on our dear youtube (and of course here) you can find many instructional videos for free, where you can learn why this thread has been created. I forgot to mention, If you would like to, I would gladly sharpen a knife for you, for free. I'm not saying I'm a honemeister, but I'm sure I can offer you something to compare your edges with.

Wow! This thread turned into quite the discussion!
My two cents:
Was Mr. Carter able to sharpen a razor to the point it could shave (notice no mention of comfort level)? Probably.
Is this the best method of razor honing and should we use it as a teaching method for new shavers? Probably not.
'nuff said?
