    I'm In Glen.
I have an Ad Arbenz's Mandarin Frameback(true frameback) with three blades. I have been waiting to hone this up and it will be interesting to see the results.

I'm not so sure that killing the edge is all that important. Effectively, once you start to re-hone on the 4K, you are starting over on that edge.

    Have fun

[QUOTE=Martin103;890567]Dont you think that we should all kill the edges the same way?QUOTE]

I was trying to figure that out too Martin, but I decided that honestly this is just a challenge against yourself, so I thought it was better to leave that up to each person...
Also I didn't address the people that would be using blades that were coming from E-bay or the restore pile, I think just so long as we are all trying hard at starting with a new Norton edge it should be fine...

Edit: And as Lynn just pointed out the 4k should kill it pretty effectivly too

    Also,
Let me be clear here, this was not just my idea, this came together from quite a few people discussing honing, and I remembered a post a couple of weeks ago in one of the threads where someone said (can't find it to give credit) "Wouldn't it be cool if everyone could agree to only use the Norton" So that's sorta what we are doing, I personally can't wait, I already have my two razors picked out

evil glen! I'm looking forward to this. The only problem I'm going to have is for the month of Jan from 7-27th I'm going to be gone for the Army. Should make it interesting that I'll have my travel strop and norton in the hotel. I'm only bringing the one blade for this but can we touch up on the 8K if needed once honed or just strop?

    That make sense!!!!
I really feel like the underdog here!!!
the only thing i have going for me is 25 years or so of sharpening and honing woodworking tools,
and to be honest i dont think that helps much!!

I think any kind of sharpening experience help. The razor is just a more delicate edge with a set geometry on the bevel. Once you learn to keep the razor flat on the stone, use the right amount of pressure and get comfortable with sharpening stones that work well for you, you're there. A little bit of practice and experience goes a long long way.
