Please don't mention the "Douk Douk", my hands hurts just as I hear that name.
Should still have both a Douk Douk and an Opinel somewhere in my mess.

From the keenness of the blade or just because the thing is far from ergonomic ?

The ergonomic part, was using one in the bush for a week.
Now I've got a small WW2 Higonokami, it's as bad for the hands as the Douk Douk, guess I'll never learn!

I have a bit of a yen for a Bone Collector muzzle loader; didn't know there was a knife as well. I shouldn't be surprised, I guess. He's signed deals for everything else...

Depending on what you're doing out in the bush, I'd say my LMF II or even my silly Bear Grylls Ultimate would be better for your needs than a freakin' Douk Douk. Though I'm still considering getting an Opinel #8 for bushcraft...

    Default Opinel L' Hermione # 8

My Opinel # 8 came in the mail today. This is not a review, just a few notes on it. I will come back with a review in about 2 months after I have had a chance to use it.

The company was great to do business with, Opinel Knives SuperStore | 200 Knife Models | 26 Opinel Categories, fast courteous, great selection.
From the web photos I expected it to be bigger, bulkier & heavy; just the opposite though.

Lightweight, the lightest folder I have, simple in design, fits great in the hand; definitely a 2 handed opener for me, solid locking mechanism, yet simple.

The blade takes an edge fairly easy; Carborumdum # 118 (considered a fine grit stone in it's time)was used to put a bevel on it, finished with Welsh Slate Approx. 4k to 6k. I made the mistake of almost laying it down on the L-side with the first stroke(I had just finished up 2 razors) , a slight "hone trail" can be seen on the L-side, I raised it to the appropriate angle & finished it. This is an embarrassment to me. After learning razors , I am more critical of all my honing.

Thanks Giuseppe & 32t for the info provided.

    Congrats Hirlau !

It's new so you'll probably not have any issues for now, but in a few years if it starts to be hard to open, a little trick : just knock the bottom of the handle (blade side) on a hard surface and it will open easily !

I'm totally jealous of your handle by the way, it looks much better than mine ! You had a better piece of wood from the boat than me ! ^^

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy it for many years !
