Thread: Combat Knives?

Mine is a current issue one, definitely a more slender blade from the WWII issue ones, i still wouldn't argue with a determined gurkha holding one though. Did you see the news last year about the gurkha court martialed in afghanistan?
There really is something about them though, a mystique. Am a fan too

Thanked: 983Same as my current issue (obviously). As soon as I get time I'll post a picture of my three originals. You can determine scale from your own current issue as my current issue will be the middle Khukuri in the photo.
What happened to the Ghurka being court marshalled? What was the charge?

think it was maybe six months ago, hit the news here big time. The gurkhas were sent out to get rid of a taliban commander and they had to bring back proof obviously, i would imagine a body. well, while heavily under fire and trying to get the body out of there this very pragmatic gurkha thought "sod this" pulled his khukri and took the head off. That's what got plonked back on the CO's desk.. Anyway they court martialed him, there was a big outcry against it here.

Think this is what he is referring to. Great story and the guy should have been recommended for a medal or new rank.

Thanked: 983Righto, finally think I found some time to take pictures and load them up for you. Well I found time to take pictures anyway. We just have to see if I can get them upload without interruptions.
This is from top to bottom: a WWII issue, Modern issue and lastly just a general use Khukuri. All with supplied scabbards.
A close shot of the top of the grips and a bit of spine section.
One with just the military issue and a Western Bowie to break up the monotony.
And just for a change of pace, my old combat knife, a Gerber Guardian with my old dog tags and Defence medal.

Wow! And i thought the current issues khukris were big, that WWII issue one is a monster! What's the score with the general use one? is that something they would just have day to day outside the military?
You were australian army? what regiment did yolu serve with? My whole family has been in the forces, Para's, Royal Irish, RAF Regiment, Green jacketsLast edited by tekbow; 05-12-2011 at 11:54 AM.

Thanked: 983Some of the earlier WWI issue were slightly bigger! The general use Khukuri is something you would find in the sash of a farmer or a housewife. It is also from a different locality of Nepal. I can't recall which part exactly, but the answer lies in the 'Cho'. I was a Rifleman in the Infantry.
Just read the article on that Ghurkha. I reckon he should get a medal for using his intiative to get the job done as ordered and staying alive to fight another day. Should never have sent him back to barracks. That's just a whitewash to cover some political backsides.
And yep I read about that train robbery gone bad incident. Made me want to be able to carry one of my larger knives around too...Except I'd be arrested if I did.

Those knives are dangerous little things.
I've been eyeing the cold steel one for a while now actually.Shaving_story on Instagram
