Well, can't hit the like button for that,,,,is that big tree in the back, lying on your house?

,,,and how will you maintain the edge on your axe?

For maintenance, I've ordered a Lansky axe puck and also the Gransfor Bruks puck. If that's not enough, I've been thinking about some of my stones that I have collected that I use only on knives...specifically a Hindostan that would be about as fine of a "grit" as I would want to put on a axe that I plan to use...not just look at.

There wasn't any big stuff to get on the house, thank God that I had a big Silverleaf maple cut down just about two months ago that was over my bedroom at the back of the house. As you can see, took probably an hour of clearing just to get my driveway clear. My wife and I spent over half of a day just clearing roads so we could get out with my Estwing axe, a Gerber hatchet, Suburban AWD, and a logging chain. They have considered this county a disaster area...some have been without power for a week now.

Oh man, sorry to see that mess, Scott. I suppose you at least get to play with a new toy to deal with it.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I have a Gransfors puck on the way, but won't be allowed to open it until the 25th.
FWIW, the book Northern Bushcraft by Mors Kochanski has some really good info on axe use and sharpening.

In the book the illustrations look kind of basic , but convey a lot of info.
There are some really good videos of the author on Youtube.

Actually gave me an excuse to buy a proper axe without the fallout from SWMBO. I just hate the damage to the mature trees. Been thinking about planting some of the big bamboo.

    Scott,

Sorry to see that. We got lucky and only got about an eighth of an inch of ice and then it turned to sleet and finally snow. That looks like the ice storm we had a few years ago......assuming you got that one too!! You better buy a Stihl and forget that axe, well after you receive it anyway.

The ice here was a minimum of 1/2" on even a pine needle, but I really don't think it was as bad as the one we had 8-10 years ago as our roads didn't get all that bad. I'll take my saw in for a full tune-up, but wanted another axe. There is just something about a good workout with an axe I can't explain, love seeing fist sized chunks of wood flying.
