Simply put, the majority of people in NI want to keep the union. If you want to know why, google the "ulster plantation"
Oh I have no idea really. I do know there was a thing on the radio today about Scotland putting out a 'white paper' arguing the pros and cons of independence. One point made was that they have a parliament, do you have one? Maybe you could get one if you don't, they're very fun to watch, all sorts of larks...They don't DO anything, and they say 'order' a lot, which is funny, as there is none...

I'm glad this forum helped you and that you're in a much better place now.
Talking on here reminds me of pub talk, it can just take off and go in any direction and you can really get things off your chest or just have a laugh

We have something similar to Scotland, though more like Wales has, it's called the assembly and they do less than most governments! Lol

    Default Hello from Northern Ireland

Right I'm off to my pit now sat up too long already.
By the way Sigmund Freud said that the Irish people were a race of people for whom psychoanalysis was of no use whatsoever. Literally, this is interpreted to mean that when in psychic trouble, the Irish resorted to poetry

Yeah, I love that, when conversations take interesting turns. I like it when sometimes when you're sitting drinking with friends and you say 'how did we get on to THIS subject?' and then you trace it back.

A little time ago I was at my son's 'camping buck's night' (a camping version of a buck's night) and someone asked why men have nipples. In the end we had decided that they would be useful if they provided snacks, I suggested Doritos (corn chips) on tap so to speak. In the end we decided Doritos from one nipple and salsa from the other would be generally beneficial to the human race. Generally. However, we decided expelling Doritos from one's nipples may be slightly painful, so some sort of soothing nipple cream may ALSO be expelled from SOME men's nipples to offset the pain. The recipient of said nipple cream could barter for it by expelling Doritos (and salsa) as payment....

Surely if we are all mad, then that is just a new baseline for sanity, thus.making the sane mad.

Don't get me wrong, it's nowhere near as bad as it once was. But the hatred remains

You should see the fresh graffiti over there Carl. Mate of mine was over there two years ago and told me that it (the hatred) was just simmering away over there, ready to erupt at any moment.
And just as an aside, I should mention during the time of the Serb/Croat fighting in Bosnia I almost made the choice to go and fight as a Mercenary for the Croats. I was really torn about, maybe I still am, because I never did go, and if I had, who knows what might have become of me. Nothing good I would imagine, but I wanted to do something about the atrocities, and I was already trained for that sort of thing by then...

    I agree.

We are mingling, we are all at a virtual houseparty at kevs, we are the last few standing, and the conversation has gone all serious. We have drunk all the good stuff, and are now.relegated to the bottles.of.blue nun and.southern comfort that.he.forgot.he.had .

Down here in Australia they sort of just left us to it, with a mandatory visit every now and again and a few left over relics. Actually, I have no idea if they invaded Ireland, did they?

I have no idea about history, really, but look what they did to the Chinese, basically became drug peddlers so they could get the tea, seems pretty despicable, really... And then they killed the Indians (both types), the Aboriginals, etc etc, chopped people's heads off if they didn't convert to Christianity, pretty ruthless they way I see it. And then they market themselves as kindly little hobbit type creatures with pretty tea cups, lace and fine shaving soaps...
I think the politics and the fact that it is so close to the mainland complicate the situation somewhat.
