    1 scoop protein powder
    1 heaping cup of spinach

    1 handful of ice cubes

You can also add two large scoops of plain greek yogurt instead of the protein powder if you want as well.
My blender struggles mightily at fully blending up the spinach but your vitamix will have no issues! Don't let the spinach throw you off the flavor is barely noticeable and really adds a lot of nutrients. Good luck with your journey!

This recipe looks interesting I think I will try it.

To all those that add yogurt. consider Kefir. It is a product that you produce at home on the counter that provides almost three times the amount of probiotics and a bit of zip to the shake. If you are staying away from dairy, know that by the time the kefir "grains" consume the dairy you have almost none of the product that most fine objectionable left. Easy, good, cheap...almost the perfect food. My kids found that they could tell when the kefir was lacking from the smoothie and where they would not drink it straight as my Dad did buttermilk, they will add it each and every drink they make themselves.

Honestly, I am one that doesn't follow a recipe like my daughter and wife do. I put in whatever is in the fridge that needs to be used, with a scoop of protein powder and some spirulla, perhaps a bit of fruit for sweetness, then down the hatch. I enjoy most everything I have made and am drinking it after all for nutrition, not recreation. Undoubtedly, it will have greens like kale in it or spinach and carrots. Most likely a banana if one is within reach.

I discovered that if it was more of an effort to come up with the perfect ingredients, then it was taking too long to make and I might as well cook.

    Oh! Even easier.

Kefir grains, about a fat Tbs, in a quart of whole milk. The fat in the milk is a good thing. 24 hrs. later (less if it's hot) I take the grains out by straining through fine colander/strainer, another day in the frig. to thicken.

I started with less than a teaspoon of grains I adopted from someone. They multiply over time. Too many grains in the milk is not optimal. It needs to have time to process before turning itself into whey.

+1...Home made Kefir is the 'BOMB'! I've been making my protein shakes with it for a long time. Originally got some grains from my brother that he purchased on the internet. I usually make about a gallon at a time because I use so much of it.

If I am of the mind or it's within reach I will throw a teaspoon of Psylium in at times, but I make no effort to add thickener. Not needed really.

Well, I have been playing with my machine for a week now and this is just amazing to me. I am gobbling up all the recipes I can find. Fruit smoothies for breakfast. Green smoothies for lunch with a few snacks in between and a decent dinner. WOWZA!! Find I am going to the store every couple days for fresh stuff, but not minding at all.

Thanks for all the recipes and discussion guys!!

Got to try the Kefir as I am going through a lot of yogurt. Gonna try the protein powder too.

    Have fun.
