I almost got one the last time they were having demos at the store and may still do.
The stuff I've sampled at the demos tasted quite good, though generally I like fruits and vegetables and eat them anyways
Speaking of which it's time for a snack and that pineapple on the counter has been looking at me kind of funny

Hi, Lynn
I just spotted this thread and interestingly, I just got a new Vitamix to replace a Blendtec machine I've had for years. I really like the Vitamix better. The Blendtec base and motor still work, but I have to replace a jar about once a year as the seal around the blade deteriorates. Anyway, I've been using it for green smoothies mainly, and Mrs. found a baby kale mix (some spinach and shredded carrots) at Sam's that is great. The baby kale does not have the bitterness of the mature kale. I also found that adding a granny smith apple adds a lot of flavor. Any combination of pineapple, mango, banana, apple, grapes, berries and greens works.
I also use protein powder, and for a special treat, try a cup of milk, chocolate protein powder, a banana and a cup of ice for a great "chocolate shake". That and a fine cigar, and life is good!

My wife started them because of hormone issues... She looks up the recipes on line.. Maccha powder for energy, tofu, greens and all types of stuff. I have one every morning. I swim a half mile at lunch and row 2 miles, and go back to work and make another smoothy in a Oyster blender. It does a crappy job compared to the vita mixer, but I put in all the healthy stuff and it does the job. I am down about 25 pounds, but putting back on muscle. Stick with it, you will see some serious change in your energy level and work out ability. I don't get hungry all day either... Good luck!
Oh yea, I almost forgot. If you go tho the website, you can buy a refurb for cheaper, and it is still covered by warrenty.Last edited by Wintchase; 04-23-2014 at 09:26 PM. Reason: adding

I do not find kale to have a bitter taste at all. We grow it here and it is like a weed. You can harvest it waaaay into the season. It is a little tough but ...the Vita-mix is like an outboard motor in a jar. You could puree a brick and drink it in that bad boy. I have heard that cinder-block is good fiber. Keeps you regular.
My daughter is fighting with me as we speak online for me to send her my Vita-mix that she adopted while at the house. I think I'll get a new daughter instead. They are boht very pricey, but the mixer doesn't get uppity.
Don't get hung up on "recipe". Pursue health. It's much easier.
Sometimes when I need a bit more liquid I use bone-broth. I have abused my joints for work for many years and I drink it instead of tea. Whatever goes in...goes down.

So Lynn, after 3 months you're still as much in love with y'er vitamix or did you return to high carbs and lots of red meat?
This morning I threw some kale, spinach, banana, apple juice, protein powder and flax seed in mine.
Simple but effective :-)

They are both excellent machines. I had a blendtech long time ago. I personally do prefer the vitamix due to its simplicity and less electronic push buttons and fancy settings. But in the end you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference in your end product.
