I like Monte Cristos, especially the way Bennigan's used to make them:
Double-decker sandwich, turkey & swiss on one deck, ham and cheddar on the other. Batter and deep fry, then dust lightly with powdered sugar. Served with raspberry jam for dipping. That was as unbelievably good as it was bad for you!

Nothing else close:
thin sliced smoked turkey
globs of brie cheese
medium-thin crisp apple slices
Stuff it all in a warmed or toasted pita pocket."We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."

Thanked: 14I am partial to an Italian Submarine - Mortadella, Hot Italian Ham, "Gabbagool", Salami, Prosciutto, Provolone. Can be cold with lettuce, onion, tomato and pepper rings dressed with vinegar and oil, or the "Hot Cut" which uses marinara sauce before toasting. Better hit the Italian grocery first thing in the am, wish I had seen this thread earlier today when I could have made it over there!

Thanked: 375Usually the best sandwiches are the ones that someone else makes for you
Not my favorite but you have to make it right! My Great Grandmother made Sweat bologna sandwiches like so... three slices sweat bologna, buttered bread and spicy mustard and a slice of American cheese, nothing fancy but good! I did have to tell my wife about the proper way to make one, she would try to make them with one slice of sweat bologna and that's a no-no...Last edited by Trimmy72; 04-24-2014 at 10:12 PM.

Sweat Bologna? Sorry, that just doesn't sound appetizing...more like something hanging out in the corner of the locker room!
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Thanked: 603As my mother used to make, for me and my brother: Leftover meatloaf, on Wonder Bread, with ketchup.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

My #1 is a reuben from a local bar named Bone Island. Dark rye bread buttered and grilled, with an ample amount of thinly sliced corn beef, a generous portion of sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and thousand island dressing. Served with waffle fries and a good dark beer. I have tried many a reuben and have not found a single one that I like better.
