Place here called Eats Mesquite has a grilled catfish sammich! Po-boy style, long. The fixins are over there! Lay a dollop of butter on it, Mayo, lettuce onion and tomato. Some Jalapenos on the side with their spicy fries. Cold Beer!

I rest my case.

Tasty!
Mine is fresh brown granary bread, reasonably thickly sliced, with proper hand sliced ham and chorizo, extra mature cheddar, mayo and fresh rocket.
Simple and exceptionally good as long as all the ingredients are top notch.

If not homemade that leaves (for me, anyhow) a Shrimpburger at El's Drive In, Morehead City, NC. No seating. Cash only. Fries OK. Shakes excellent. Dogs and burgers are "also ran" at best.
Shrimpburger and Oysterburger? To die for.

Thanked: 995A Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich...can be any meat but barbecued pork or VN meatballs, pickled veggies and killer sauce. Found best at street vendors, sometimes restaurants.

I'm gonna have to say nothing hits the spot like a great grill cheese. Throw some tomatoes in there or even fancy cheese and now we're talking! I would also say a Lox bagel, but I feel like that may not count as a true sandwich.
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

Stu,
As I've worked in a produce department for a major chain here in the States for almost 36 years I'm pleased to know that for all this time when I've been telling these Yanks that what they call 'Arugula' (which is the Italian name) for what is actually called 'Rocket' in English! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
