Thread: Tea anyone ??!!

I'm working my way through my last pack of shincha - a Kagoshima sencha called Kirishima No Kaori.

It's a light steamed tea and this, along with the similarly priced, deep steamed Kagoshima sencha asatsuyu, is probably my favourite sencha so far, and one that I keep coming back to because of it.

I'm fond of Earl Grey

Been drinking some pu erh, Ahmad cardamom, and some unknow japanese black tea at work during my nights

Japanese blacks are fairly uncommon but I've been impressed with what I've tried so far.

I've got another packet on my wish list but haven't had the 'extra' money to spend on it yet - they're not that cheap.

Do you know what you've got?

I might get a black tea next time I stock up, now that you've mentioned it.

It's ok, nothin special about it in my book. Still can't pin down the flavor.

My doc told me to give up coffee because the combination of caffeine, altitude, stress, and insomnia were having some bad impact - of course I ignored him - and had to have my ticker operated on a year later. So no more coffee beans for me. Black tea only now for caffeine intake. It's still caffeine but a lot less than the cup-an-hour of coffee I used to swill. Current favorite tea is British Breakfast by The Republic of Tea - probably because that's what my wife buys these days.

Wow. Lotsa teaheads here. I am a coffee guy first and foremost - been roasting my own for more than a decade. I like coffee anything. Espresso, americano, aeropress, vietamese iced drip, french press, vacpot, mokapot, turkish style... even a perker (but only when camping). There must be 30-40 coffeemakers in the house, mostly old vacpots. Mazzer grinder next to an Oscar. Oddly enough I don't drink a lot of coffee. I mean, I NEED it but not gallons of it; just a cup or two of quality does the trick in the morning. Mrs. Moo rolls the same way.

Come cool weather, however, the kettle and teapot used to come out every night. No more. Now the Breville automatic tea brewer comes out!!! Man - I LOVE that thing. Put in the water, add a few scoops of tea, set your settings and push the button. A little elevator full of leaves goes up and down in a pot of water heated precisely to the profile of leaf and strength you designate. Beeps gently when ready. Crazy price but, WTH, it was a Christmas present. I highly recommend it (as a gift you get from someone else).

I have been exploring assams, oolongs and darjeelings for the past several years. Right now I am pouring a lovely black assam (Melody) from Adagio with about 10% chili-chocolate black tea mixed in. I overbought. It'll be assams all winter. When it's gone it'll be a year or two of darjeelings.

I also like Twinings Irish Breakfast Tea in a pinch. I finally tried a box of that PJ Tips stuff after reading about how many gazillion people love it - feh. It sucks. Who wants it? You love it? pm me.

To each his own...... Some of us do Like PG Tips as do quite a few folks in Britain. It is a good grade of common bag tea. The Twinnings in Britain is far better quality than what we get. We have every kind of like here. If you like it then that is what is important. I drink coffee still on occasion, but like many here it tends to tear me up where as I can consume large amounts of tea with no problems and I enjoy it greatly . There is much wonderful tradition and custom that comes with tea which is discussed and presented in many of the earlier posts. Whether it's Asian, or Russian, British or Middle eastern Tea is a delicious comforting pastime . Many here are experts in their own right of their choice and style of tea .
