The yixing teapot is brand new, using it for the first time today. I got it for sheng puerhs.

Coincidentially, the picture reveals the weather we have. There is a small bubble in the middle of the drinking cup remaining from the pouring of the tea. Low pressure gathers the bubbles in the middle, high pressure moves them to the rim of your cup. There, now you don't need the weatherman to tell you where the wind blows. Heh, I'll play that old song right now.. Anyone got that reference btw?

I included a small white cup in the picture, since my drinking cup is not ideal for showing the color of the brew.

    Enjoy the weekend, Gentlemen.
What sort of instrument is that on the bottom right? Is that a funny looking dagger? You can see where my main interests lie.

Hey Mick, that's a puerh tea knife. They come in different styles, like little daggers or awls, and are used to gently break up the tea. Puerh usually is compressed into bricks or cakes or nests, or something the like. (I could not find out how to link directly to the shape section, it is a little bit down the page.)
Anyways, some of those can be compressed fairly tight so it is impossible to break it up by hand. Hence the need for neat little gadgets

What is that cup? That's so cool! What's it made of?

I have some pics of that new matcha that I bought—I'll post them tomorrow. Must say though, the matcha is great! It's incredibly smooth and creamy, something that I've not tasted in matcha before, yet it still has a distinct marine, seaweed flavour.

Also, I took out the kyusu that I normally use for my genmaicha, bancha and roasted teas (both in process and in flavour)—a teapot that I use almost every day—to discover some disgusting looking gunk coating the inside of the spout and behind the filter. There was a little on the inside walls of the pot, too, which I wiped with a cloth and it came away all brown and stained.

Obviously I wasn't going to leave it like this because it looked (and probably was) foul, so despite knowing that you're not supposed to wipe, clean or use anything abrasive and what not on the inside of a teapot, I had to stick the thing in a bowl of hot water with a dishwasher tablet.

On the upside, I've got a sparkly clean pot! On the downside, all the unique character it picked up through use over the last year—the tea-stained filter and the marks on the inside from general tea making—have all gone. It never really developed a noticeable taint in flavouring the water, not like the little kyusu that I broke the lid of, which gives the water quite a distinct taste, but nevertheless it was a shame to have to clean it all away.

Still don't know what the gunky coating was, but I'll be extra vigilant from now on, and make sure all my pots get a good rinse through with boiling water after each use and I'll check them and make sure they've dried completely before I put them away.

It's a modern style Kuska ( Kupilka - Dishware & cutlery - outdoor & kitchen - Kupilka ) made from a resin and wood fibers, I will withstand the dishwasher, high drink temperatures and won't absorbed odors and flavors...

I have this one so I can save my wood Kuska for my special beverages

I like that...might see if I can get one. Don't really know why I need it, other than for the sake of throwing money at things. Still...

It's not "gunk lined" Mick, it's "seasoned". There's a difference.
