Looks light. Maybe it's the light shining through it...

It was. I went with the recommended brewing from Den's. Way too little tea for the amt of water 4g/225ml. The second batch was better.

Vendors' recommended parameters always confuse me. It's never right. I don't get how they work it out...

The accouterments are fairly inexpensive items from the Pu'ehr Shop. But its all serviceable stuff. This one was backed up by Sencha as the base tea. So it had the flavors you'd expect from that - vegetal. But the toasted/popped rice was very pronounced. Really roasty cereal flavors. Overall a very savory cup of tea.

I've got a pack of (what is claimed to be) gyokuro karigane, which a relative bought me for Christmas. Will open it soon—I'm interested and skeptical in equal measures...

Generally, what proportions do you use? I find that I like at least twice what was recommended. Either 8 or 10g/225-250ml water.

    Default Tea anyone ??!!

Yeah, for genmaicha, I'd agree with you. I hardly ever weigh tea anymore though. I just go based on what I think looks right in the scoop/pot.

    If in doubt, add more!

Having said that. I don't often buy gyokuro and when I do, I don't think I use enough leaf.
