I tried Den's Gyokuro today. I wish I had never opened that little packet. What a delicious tea. Full bodied and jammed with umami, almost salty. I haven't tried the one from Ippodo yet but I hope it's as nice as this one was.

The first time I had a tea in that spectrum I was a convert. I don't really remember anymore what was the exact tea - I remember that when I opened the big canister at the store and took a sniff I knew this is something else - seaweed/umami type of fragrances. Later I found the same spectrum in gyokyros (or is it gyokuri? ) and same price range ~$200/lb, so that first one must've been fairly similar even though I'm certain the name was different.
It's my favorite green tea, although I like diversity and enjoy a fair number (probabbly 30-40 different ones in my tea cupboard).

Then pu erh must be the tobacco/cigars of teas

I've done lapsang mixed with whiskey and can confirm that they are different species for a reason - God did not want them to breed together
Well, it's not that bad, but the whiskey is far better undiluted and the tea would've tasted the same with vodka instead.

That's the problem. It's delicious and expensive.....and you use a lot more than other teas per cup.

It's true, but it's still cheaper than crack and since it's a bit less addictive you use less

But may be it's me being a glass half full = cup fully full guy with a taste for bad puns.

So I've opened the gyokuro rimpo from ippodo. Here are the pics:

I've only had gyokuro once before and this was fairy similar, to be honest. The first infusion has a very thick mouth-feel, rich and very heavy on umami. Subsequent infusions are lighter and a bit more delicate but still with a pronounced sweet/savoury flavour.

I'd like to try some higher quality gyokuro at some point. I've been recommended hibiki-an's gyokuro but I think I'll save that for another time.

Earl Grey and Oat's for this morning's breakfast...

Oh and a little brown sugar and cinnamon and milk with the oats... Have a great Sunday!
