Glenkinchie 12yr. Sample...plastic bottle (shame on them).

First time trying this Lowland single malt. Not very complex. I filled a tall glass with ice, poured the rest in and topped it off with some Pellegrino and a stir. Definitely worked well for that.

Interesting. Personally I was surprised by how complex it was, having not expected much from it. It's definitely quite subtle in my opinion, and it develops a fair bit after the bottle's been opened which you wouldn't get a chance to experience with a small sample. Same with most of the diageo single malts, they develop a lot more flavour after the bottle's been opened even for just a day. I hear it's an indicator of a slightly substandard cask. Very noticable with Dalwhinnie I found. That one didn't have much flavour at all when I first opened it, but 24 hours later it was completely different.

I just cracked open a bottle of Buffalo Trace. This is probably my favorite American whiskey.

    Last night's dram:

Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey 40%ABV Sample size

Some banana notes, faintly fruity, faint vanilla, butter. The notes were muted by the overly strong sharp grain alcohol note. Rubbing alcohol aroma is dominant.

Taste: Not a smooth whiskey. I would take a Jameson or Bushmill's over this for sure.

It would serve well as a mixer.......

Have about a dram of Lagavulin left in the bottle. Looks like I am going to have to pick up something new this weekend....

    Have a great day...

There may be nothing sadder in life than having only one dram of Lagavulin left in the bottle.

That was worth reading. I've tried jameson's and bushmills and I wasn't too impressed by either so I don't think I'll be buying Tullamore anytime soon. You've also inspired me to get on with writing up a review I've been procrastinating on for several months. Cheers.

Tonight, it is a dram of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, as a nightcap.

Finished the last of the glenlivet 12 that dad left at my house the other week. It's been a while since I've had that and forgot how good it is.
