I know what you mean with your $100 whisky. I'd never pay that for a glass, I couldn't anyway. But I once got the chance to sample a whisky that apparently cost £300 a glass and to be fair it was great but was it 100x better than a £3 glass?
I don't think so

I've had some inexpensive bottles that were really quite as good as much more expensive ones.

It was a good night tonight:
Jura Superstition (my contribution to the evening)
Glenfarclas 15yo
And some stonkingly expensive Glenmorangie Signet.
Liked 'em all, but the Jura was my favourite. The Glenmorangie was lovely too, but at more than 4x the price of the Jura, I know which I'd be likely to buy. Quite happy to have had my friend take one for the team and buy that bottle. I think that was the first Glenfarclas I've had, and it certainly won't be the last.Last edited by Cangooner; 11-23-2013 at 06:15 AM. Reason: Whisky-soaked typos
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I celebrated some good news tonight by sharing some Buffalo Trace Bourbon with a friend. Also bought a miniature bottle of Makers Mark just to see what was like. I don't drink much so the two small glasses I drank had me fairly relaxed. Also, did so toasting (wives participating this time) with Sparkling Wine.
Saw some of the Scotch and Irish whiskies mentioned in this thread when purchasing the Bourbon. Really tempting-I might splurge for the holidays.

I have barely drunk bourbon in years. It was all I drunk in my late teens early twenties. But once I discovered single malts I never went back.
I think it's the overly strong wood taste it gets from the brand new barrels.
My local distillery gets those barrels second hand and using them in their ageing process along with port, sherry and rum barrels, really adds to the whiskey.
Also last night I had an Innis & Gunn Stout aged in bourbon barrels, first time I had it but I'll definitely be getting more while I can but it's a limited batch

Picked up a bottle of Aberlour 16 yr old last night. After I'm done roasting this chicken and my potato gratin, my after dinner drink will be waiting.
