Had another drop if cs springing 12 this morning before bed. I also got paid fir some work I did last November and had forgotten about, so i'm suddenly 1750 kroners better off. Spent 500 on a bottle of laphroaig 10, but was looking for bunnahabhain 12. They only had Toiteach which I hadn't heard of. I didn't want to risk the money in something with no age statement before doing a bit if research. Ah well, Bunnahabhain 12 is still on next months shopping list. I might get their Young and Feisty Provenance too as it's available in small bottles and i don't mind risking that. Anyone tried it? Or Bunnahabhain Toiteach for that matter?

It's just under $180 here, so it could be worse.

This is a gifted bottle of whiskey.
Henry McKenna Kentucky Bourbon.

This is an interesting drink; strong oak and cinnamon flavors. I am not sure about the significance of being bottled in bond.
Has anyone tried this Bourbon?

I've never tried it, but I could have a guess at the significance of the bottling location. As i understand it you're not allowed to add any colouring to whiskey bottled in the US, so assuming Bond is in the US it means no colouring has been added. The rumour is that some companies ship barrels of whisky out of the US for bottling so they can add caramel colouring.

This may be true and I can't attest to the fact...but the true colouring of any bourbon, whiskey or scotch comes from the barrels they were aged in. So it may indeed be a marketing ploy to adjust the colour to achieve that wanted colour.

I think with scotch they're allowed to add caramel colouring without telling you on the bottle, so I assume it's the same with bourbon or whiskey. With scotch they usually tell you if it doesn't contain any, so I reckon the "bottled in Bond" statement is a way of doing that without being so rude as to suggest that other bourbons might be cheating a bit. The alliteration makes it quite a nice slogan for the brand too, so that might be all there is to it. I get slightly frustrated about caramel colouring in whisky, I'd prefer to see the real colour it picked up from the cask. I hear some people can taste the caramel too if there's a lot used (something in the aftertaste, apparently), but I can't say I've ever noticed it.

I just discovered it's 549 kroner here in Norway which was a bit of a surprise, I thought it would be a lot more. That's about $90 US. 10 year old is 499kr, and I'd say it's well worth the extra. Something liked $8 more I think.

I also just discovered that I've become a senior member. Not sure how that happened, although I have been posting quite a bit lately.
