A few weeks ago my cheap little Breville Cafe Modena finally died. I upgraded to this Gaggia and am very happy with it. It's a much more solid machine the delivers a natural crema.

Do you have to use the torch to heat up the water?

No the Gaggi heats up really nice. But I do need to roast beans.

We'll, I'm not an expert. And my budget limitations dictated much of my decision. At the price range they didn't seem to be a better option. I didn't want pressurized filters and wanted it to be fairly manual. True coffee geeks might have better options but it seemed like a good choice for me. I have my preferences with coffee and this seems to deliver so ill take it. But I've heard that the Classic is not the same if you buy it in Europe. I've heard bad things about changes they made to comply with certain standards there yet the US version remains the same. I don't know if that effects you. Buyer beware.

Budget dictated my decision but for the price range the gagi here was also one of the main recommended units on the coffee forums that I used for researching.

Very happy with it and much better results.

Now that hat you have used this for several months, what is your opinion of it. I'm considering the same model. I am currently using an older Baratza that has served me really well. But the grind settings are few and I think I could benefit from a greater range.

I have found it to be good and very consistent. It was actually recommended by a guy I know who owns a coffee shop (coffe is actually pretty well all he does) it is what he uses at home. I was having difficulty with the one my machine came with and had told the wife about this one being recommended and that was why she brought it.

The vendor that I have been buying from recommended it too. But looking at reviews on Amazon, they were all over the board. Amazon reviews can be so useless at times. One person will say that they plugged it in and ground coffee - 5 STARS! The next guy will say that he plugged it in and his whole house exploded - 1 star. Somewhere in between those two is reality. But the one thing that my ears did perk up to was the accusation that the unit failed them after a short period of use. I could throw an additional $100 toward the grinder into a different category but that might be overkill. I'm not running a coffee shop out of my house so I don't want to overbuy. I consider myself a light user since I am the only person in the house drinking the stuff. I suspect this unit should work just fine. Maybe toward the end of the year I'll commit to it.
