@Dieseld — Definitely compare the planar (flat burr) grinder you are considering to one with a conical burr-set. I’ve found that a conical burr grind profile is superior to planar, but it’s so easy to overlook the grinder when the espresso machine gets all the attention. After fresh beans, the grinder is key to great espresso.

Oh, and lever machines rock! Happy hunting.

Like the Aeropress, but at a much higher cost.

They have a following and are well regarded and the routines are modified with simple cheap additions to the basic unit. I was given one and I bought an electric kettle to use it. It makes good coffee, all things being equal.

I know I don't have any of these machines and. Like to think I enjoy good coffee, I use and Aeropress, and my tea kettle, once it starts whistling, I,m ready and though I do like some of the exotic coffees , I,m really hooked on Community bold. One of these days I'll give it whirl, Tc

Hey guys. While I wouldn’t call myself a “coffee enthusiast”, I do enjoy my morning americano or dry cappuccino. I use a pretty basic Cuisinart espresso machine. It’s nothing fancy, but it works well if you have the grind right. For the last few years I’ve been hooked on Major Dickasons blend from Peet’s. I’m wanting to try some different coffees but I’m not sure what I’m looking for. I’ve recently purchased some Jeramiah’s Fog Buster. It not bad, just mild and boring for my tastes. I’m hoping you guys can point me toward some better beans.

I’m not sure of the proper terms to describe what I’m looking for but I’ll try to explain in my words. I want something full bodied. The main reason I prefer americanos is the added body and texture that I don’t get from drip coffee. Darker roasts are okay, but I’m not down with anything that tastes burnt. I don’t like coffees that tast overly acidic either. I guess the main thing I’m looking for is more flavor. I’ve tried adding an extra shot but it’s not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for something bold and well balanced. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

A sample pack from a "major roaster" could be the answer to the variety of bean and roast you prefer. They tend to do consistent roasts over time and do make the final product as close as possible the same over differing batches of green. Since you have a reasonable and repeatable machine, that may be the way to go.
There are quite a few that mail order all over the US.
Just my take on the subject.

BeJay, I've gotten thisin a green bean, but I'm sure you could find it roasted. The coffee is Indian Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold.
I find this to be a full flavored bold coffee, and quite good.


Mark, the lever Espresso machines are just so freaking cool looking they memorize you. To me they are works of art!!
