Thread: Proraso pre shave

I used it for the first time this morning, as I am very early on in my journey I'm willing to give everything a go. But what a difference it made to my previous pre shave oil. My face has thanked me lots by not bleeding for the first time since I started, I found that it has left my skin really soft and also made that first past a lot nicer.

I've used Proraso pre/post shave cream since the beginning. I find it helps after the shave in those areas where I normally get irritation. Cools and softens my skin, and by the next day the redness is gone. However, I'm intrigued by the use of Noxema for the same purpose, especially since it costs significantly less. Will definitely give this a try.

Interesting comment.

The one and only time I developed skin rash from a shaving product was from Proraso Pre-shave.
Didn't think it could be Proraso, but stopped using it for a while anyway and tried it a few weeks later again - with the same result.

I believed this to be a one off reaction to this particular tub, tossed it and later tried another one without adverse skin reaction.
Still, it goes to prove that if the balance of chemical ingredients in Proraso is disturbed it can lead to skin rashes.

As I was never that impressed with Proraso in the first place, I use it now even less and prefer less "chemical", more dermatologically proven products.

Today I used Proraso Pre-post shaving cream (Eucalyptus&Menthol) for the first tıme. I'm very impressed with the menthol effect. Even if I didn't have a shower before I shave, I think this cream helped to prepare my beard for shave very vell. I need to use it for about 2 weeks at least for further comments but first impression is, it's a very nice product.

I use the white as a pre and post.

After wetting my face and giving it a wash, I'll rub in some white Proraso taking my time on it, lather up then shave. Once I'm acceptably smooth I'll rub it in again quite well though more gently and finish with cold water to the face.

Am I the only person that opens the lid and submerges my Proraso in the hot water? It doesn't seem to loosen or contaminate the water and when it's slightly warm/wet it rubs in really nicely, plus it doesn't give the cold feeling against the face you've just spent minutes heating up.

I find this to be accurate for me as well. I used it often when starting with DE razors and after time as my technique improved the results were not as noticeable.

Now that I'm starting a new approach to shaving with straights I find the product once again provides benefit.

Agree with the general consensus that Proraso makes a more than satisfactory pre-shave.
However, both the regular/green and the sensitive/white are heavy on menthol - not to my liking.

I agree, just buy the Noxema 1

I love mentholated products, but I'm not convinced a hot shower isn't good enough to prepare my skin for a shave. Perhaps I'll get it to swap out for my alcohol splash aftershave once in a while!
