used glycerin as a pre-shave oil today. let it soak in for 5 minutes before lathering. did not go well. will not do again. however, lanolin+glycerin added to my bowl lather has been fantastic for creating a REALLY dense, creamy lather.

Great timing on this post. I tried glycerin for the first time today with Tabac shaving cream. I just put a squirt in with a peanut sized drop of cream. IMHO I got a better shave. The lather seemed more substantial too.
Tabac so far is my favorite cream. Seems not to dry out as fast and is slicker than others I have tried. I'm going to try glycerin over the next few days with Taylo'rs and Vintage Blade's creams and see if makes a diference for me.
I also tried Nivia Balm. Gave it about 15 minutes to soak in while I cleaned up my gear and did a post shave strop. Then spashed on Taylor's Bayrum. NICE! It was a fitting end to an enjoyable shave.

I just started adding it to my lather. Col. Conk Bay Rum soap + C. O. Bigelow shave cream + a splash of glycerin. Makes a great lather and does the job well.
Probably overkill, but why not??Last edited by Servant4Christ; 11-06-2011 at 06:34 PM.

I never add it before lathering, never works for me, I face lather until I have a shave ready lather then add it, my face disappears under marshmallow like creaminess! same with bowl lathering, I always add it in after. I get it so I can slap my face with my brush, thats how thick I aim for... its nothin kinky... honest
I mix glycerin and lanolin in a small bottle. I add a couple drops to my scuttle when making lather. I find pretty much everything benefits from a 2-3 drops of this mixture.

TOBS creams don't need it (but it gets ridiculously creamy if you use 3-5 drops in it) But when I'm whipping up some lather for my wife I add a few drops of glycerin, BP matter the soap/cream I'm using. It helps the lather stick around longer and it makes her legs silkier.

my face was dry yesterday and i've got both lanolin and glycerin sitting around now, but am not having consistent results making lathers with them. i've found that proraso soap seems not to benefit from both, but may benefit from just lanolin, not sure yet. but i've found that my T&H sampler creams benefit from a combination of both and make excellent lathers with them most of the time, with a couple failures. i did find another use though. it was night and i was going to go to bed soon and my face was dry, so i warmed up my lanolin bottle in hot water and then rubbed a couple drops all over my face. let it sit there all sticky for about 5 minutes, then washed with a mild face soap. repeated this process with gylcerin, which was less sticky but felt quite warm on my face, like it was undergoing an exothermic reaction on my skin. also let that sit there for 5 minutes. then washed again with the mild soap. my face was NOT dry after that.

I load my brush with soap or cream, put 3 - 4 drops of glycerin on the brush & then build lather right on my face. That or on weekends I make uber lather. It's great!
Maybe I should drink some too! Seems like it would make intentines slippery - good for cholestrol?

Thanked: 48I bought some lanolin and a dropper bottle thinking to mix them but the lanolin is like a sticky like ear wax and it isn't diluting with anything, soap, water, or glycerin. Is there a trick to mixing it into the glycerin to put in a dropper bottle? It is really thick heavy stuff stubborn to mix with anything.

Where can I find some Lanolin? I'd like to try it out.
I have been useing Glycerin for a week or so now and prefer to create Uberlather for most of my shaves, I really like the consistency I get with it, and even when I do cream or soap only I find that I get MUCH better lather with the addition of Glycerin
