Too stiff and it will give cushion but drastically reduce glide.
I'll definitely give that a try.

You were right bharner. I tried less glycerin and more water and got the best lather I've yet made. I was shocked at how much water I was able to work in while still getting a very thick lather. Very soft on the face with less irritation. The glycerin's a keeper!

Glad it worked for ya. I've got really hard water and a couple soaps that I like but that don't like hard water. It took some experimentation with the glycerin but it makes most soaps perform well. Still haven't gotten it to save the Caswell-Massey cream yet, though so I just that as a pre-shave these days.

I've been using glycerin shave soap from Em's Place.

    1. would adding liquid glycerin or lanolin make a difference?
    2. am I nuts for using this soap and should I move on to a better brand?

    TY

    1. I would say if it is a glycerine soap you should be fine without adding more. If not look at #2.

    2. I can't judge a soap I have never used. Fortunately there are thousands to choose from. Why not just get a few of the big ones everyone talks about to compare? MWF, Tabac, Proraso would be a good start. Honestly in the end it is up to personal preference and the one constant every straight shaver can agree on is there are never too many X worth having, where X is a variable that represents almost anything shave related.

Mayhaps I will give a couple of other soaps a try. I suppose that IS part of the fun of this.

    Thanx

No problem... it is lots of fun experimenting and finding what makes you happy. That is one of the benefits of wet shaving in general is it opens the doors to what otherwise feels like a narrow set of choices down the typical supermarket aisle.

. . . and by the way; in what section of the drug store would one go to to find glycerin or lanolin?

CVS has it in the facial health section, by the acne creams and such.

What methods are you guys using with your glycerin? I would love to know. (How much, when to add, and any other uses)
Sorry... I use the vintage soaps and creams as they were designed.

Early in my career, I used to question their formulas... as I learned to shave I found them quite adequate.

I can't find a reason to fix it - if it isn't broke.

    Enjoy...
