Thanked: 0In my limited experience I have found that a few drops helps to avoid the lather drying out .
However the results when using glycerin do not convince me that it is absolutely necessary. I have noticed that it is usually only required when the relative humidity is low.

Tried it several times with new style Williams soap and it makes a big difference, I think.
Worth playing with from time to time.

I have been using it for about a month now. Not sure what it does but it makes a difference. It seems to make the lather slicker. Just my $.02 worth.

CVS Pure Glycerin for $3.00 - I've been adding to a couple of different soaps over the last week. Sometimes I can tell it's making a difference, sometimes...not so much. I think I will have to do some more research.

I only add it to my MWF these days as it seems to dry out the most. I've been using my soaps to wash my face in the morning so plenty of time to practice lathering and most of the time I don't need the glycerine. Brilliant stuff though with certain soaps.
I would say don't add too much, I find it dries out the lather if you use too much...
regards Alex

I bought some Williams and some glycerin from CVS a few days ago. I just tried it in my Old Spice mug with 4 drops of glycerin. Worked great to maintain the lather for a long time! It got a little pasty after a while (it takes me about 30-40 minutes to shave as I'm still a newbie). Honestly, this worked far better than the Art of Shaving cream that I have... and it was a small fraction of the cost.

I have a puck of glycerin soap that I keep in the bottom of my shave mug. I will usu add a finger dab of "art of shaving " cream to the mug and then whip up a nice lather. So far I have never had any issues with razor burn

I found that the Glycerin is behind the pharmacy counter at Walgreens. I have tried a few of the suggestions in this thread and found them useful.
Thanks everyone.

I had been adding a few drops on Williams to improve the lather, but I tried something else that I like more. After a hot towel, I put a pretty heavy coat of glycerin on my face. Not dripping off my face, but close to it. I then loaded up my brush with Williams and face lathered.
It was the most comfortable shave I've had. So I tried it again the following day with the same results, awesome shave.

Thanked: 1I don't mean to thread jack, but has anyone ever added essential oil or some other additive to the glycerin to give it a scent? I was thinking about adding some orange or lemon essential oil to mine. Otherwise it would seem like an unscented slime... Just my thoughts anyway.
