I have never tried a bay rum and I didn't know anything about it. But reading so many posts on the shaving forums I decided to try one a couple of years ago.
I found positive comments regarding the Ogallala bay rum so that was the one I ordered.
When it came I opened it to feel the scent.
This was the most awful smell I had ever experienced. I closed it immediately and sent it to a friend who actually liked it.
Since time has passed from that day, I am thinking of trying another bay rum that maybe smells different compared to Ogallala.
I would like to ask if there is anybody like me that doesn't like the Ogallala bay rum, but has tried other one that actually prefers. I am thinking especially the Clubman bay rum because I really like the classic scent and the musk, and I also enjoy the reserve version.
Thank you.

Thanked: 13245Slur,
If the Ogallala turned your nose and you still want to try a Bay Rum, you will want to try one with the "Island Version" of the scent..
They tend to be a Lighter scent with very little too no cloves, some that come to mind
Dominica
Bois de Inde
St Lucia
Constanza
Another that is a lighter scent is the Superior 70, and very inexpensiveLast edited by gssixgun; 05-11-2014 at 03:12 PM.

Been hearing all about Bay Rum aftershave and cologne and got me interested in giving a try so I am thinking of picking up a bottle of Clubman brand Bay Rum any opinions on which one I should try?

Thanked: 375That's what drew me in. It has grown on me after a couple of days use. Although I'm curious if they actually use Pimenta Racemosa, as they only list it as Bay Leaf oil so I suspect not the proper leaf, so a weak BR scent. If they would add the right bay rum oil this stuff would rock, because the surrounding notes I pick up on are nice.
In my review of it I suggested a cheaper refill option (seems a waste to toss such a cool bottle and labeling), and questioned the Bay Leaf oil.Last edited by Trimmy72; 05-12-2014 at 02:43 PM.

Thanked: 1160Too many post to scour back through so here's my question. I do like Clubmans Bayrum ,Olgalalla limes n peppercorns, and Dominica Lime. All nice but I am looking for one with real Pimenta Racemosa, good staying power and good conditioners ....suggestions ?? So far I'm eyeballin Captains choice regular or Lime.

Thanked: 375Nightblade, Captians choice is the only one I've tried that has some staying power. Lime smells of real Limes, the regular scent I pick up more cinnamon or maybe it's allspice.
I like Royall Bay Rhum too, but I'm not sure it has the conditioners your looking for.CHRIS

Thanked: 1160Captains choice does sound good. I have been mulling over the Royall but I need to research the ingredients. Thanks Trimmy.
