You might also try an AS with little to no scent and then using a cologne you both like.

I'm a firm believer that the scents we wear are not for our own enjoyment but for the benefit of others, especially those of us with partners. I do not pick out my own aftershave or cologne, and I choose my lady's perfumes for her. She wears them to entice me and to maximize my desire to snuggle. After all, after application how long does it take before your nose is dead to your own scent?

That being said, I'm lucky in that my lady and I have similar taste in these things. We both like spicy/musky scents so I can usually guess what she'll like and I'll probably like it too. (we both hate florals)

By old man smells I'm assuming she means stuff with primarily spicy/musky notes. You'd probably have more luck with something citrusy with some herbal/woody notes.

Now, one option is to make your own. Easily and cheaply done, most natural ingredient aftershaves are going to be tinctures. Which means they will use either alchohol or witch hazel or a combination of those to extract the essential oils from the things you steep (soak) in them. You can either use actual citrus zest and shredded cedar bark, or take the easy way out and buy some bottles of essential oils and just add them to your preferred alchohol/witch hazel/aloe juice/water concoction.

Take her shopping, we have a flea market near my town with several booths selling scented oils. It can be fun picking them out together or buy something premixed that she likes to add to the base. Make sure you get "essential oil" or "extract" and NOT "fragrance oil". The latter will be synthetic crap.

    Good luck.

I make my own Bay Rum and it is a real good sent. What is cool you can add more or use less of any ingredient to make it your own. Sometimes it may take a few
trys to get it the way you want it but when you get it right its yours.

I myself have a pet hate, when it comes to scents, leave it to the people who have always lead the field the original makers of the classics, not some silly Jeans designer or Ralph Lauren clothes maker jumping on the band wagon, most of us on here will quickly realise these people have massive amount of influence and a power base to promote themselves, they know nothing about scents and fragances but with powerful marketing machines to convince the younger gerneration that they must own these scents, it's all hype.

There lies the trouble it's another endorsment to back up my view point. couldn't imagine a Jimi Hendrix or a John Lennon fragrance from the sixties, everything today must have a spin off, it's cheap nasty with absolutely zero taste.

Might be best to play it safe with mellow scents for now and go to town in future when you're the daddy to save spoiling future favorites!

The old man smell is one of those things in life I really enjoy when it comes to soaps and aftershaves and colognes. I'm partial to the oldschool in many ways and have been for years, that's just the way I am. It's not for everybody though.
...same for me with my ex...her brother went overboard with the Lagerfeld after she went on about how she liked it on me...he would bathe in it and she subsequently was truned off to the point of nausea...which is fine now since she's my ex...loo
