    Default "old man" smell

Now I do not want to offend anyone. Certainly not some of the wiser members if this forum. But in my beginnings into wet shaving I have been using either lavender, unscented or sandlewood shave creams/soaps and AoS lavender aftershave. SWMBO says I smell like an old man. I am 26 and she is currently pregnant which probably doesn't help much.

But I would like a post shave product that hopefully doesn't illicit that response from her. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Rob

Have you tried Clubman Pinaud? It's inexpensive to try it out. My wife loves it, didn't mind the scent while pregnant either. As an added bonus, when you splash some on after a shave, it will give you instant feedback on your shaving technique.

Personally I find old-time fragrances very distinguished and civilized, unlike generic modern designer frags. But if you have to defer to the old lady, I completely understand
No offense to Rearden, but Pinaud Clubman is probably the epitome of "old man" smells for no other reason than this barbershop classic has been around for decades. Don't get me wrong, I love it, and there is a slight chance you'll be able to fool SWMBO, but not likely.

For a more modern scent you could try something like Burberry, or on the cheaper side perhaps Nivea.

I am not big on the new scents either. My wife seems to enjoy the Clubman, Booster Iced Lime and some Addidas stuff the kids got me for a gift. I am ot big on the Addidas as it reminds me of a night at the Roxbury....

You could try some of the Arko AS's. They are inexpensive and have a more modern scent.

The Body Shop sells a "Maca Root" shave creme that is made for men. However, a lot of women use it. I have some. Though I prefer older scents-still not sure why sandalwood makes you smell like an old man-the Maca Root has a modern scent and is not too shabby for the olfactory department. It is hard to describe but it does not make you smell like a frat boy. No offense to any frat boys. It runs about 15 bucks. The Body Shop also runs specials so you can get one item free. I purchased the creme, balm and pre-shave. I got the pre-shave for free. However, after using the pre-shave (oil) it really gunked up my razor but maybe you would have better luck with it.

Maybe take her shopping to buy something she likes on you.

What smells like old man to her probably has more to do with what her dad/grandpa/uncles wore than anything else. You might find something that's really old that she thinks smells great. Where something newer might remind her of old men.

Any of the newer AS/B's should smell "younger" to her, at least while she's got the super mom nose (my wife's never left her). Nivea's ASB is one my wife likes...very mild scent which is important when almost anything can make her want to vomit.

    FWIW!

    Peace,
    Jim

None taken Ryan. I only mentioned C.P. as it is inexpensive to sample, unlike some designer AS's. It would be to bad if Cavere dropped a chunk of change on a brand name or designer AS only to have the misses not like it. I'm not quite that old nor young, more like somewhere in between, but my SWMBO digs the C.P. She said the scent can be described as a mix between a deju vu moment and nostalgia.
