I have had a Lord Byron Wade & Butcher straight razor box for quite some time now but I did not have the razor that goes with it. I put an ad in the wanted section here in the classifieds & I had a reply from another member but it was the day after the accident on my Harley so I never saw it until a couple weeks ago. It seems this new member who has not been on ever since, told me they had that razor. I sent them a pm & never got a reply so a few days later, I sent them an email. Meanwhile, I was on eBay one day & I just happened to see one & it had just a few minutes left so I sniped it at the last second for a decent price, not very much at all. I then got a reply in my email later that day & the person said sorry, they had just sold it on eBay. I said, "that was me, I won it from you" & I gave my name. I got a reply back from a young woman saying yes, that it indeed was me that won it!!! I was so happy I saw it. I had it in my saved searches but it never came up, I just happened to be looking on the bay & saw it or someone else would have won it. I just got the other piece of the puzzle today in the mail. The razor number is on the box & also on the razor. I have only seen one other one & it was Zak that has one also. On the blade it says, "In golden characters right well designed. - First on the list - Byron, Childe Harold"
He was an English poet & a leading figure in the Romantic movement. He is best known for lengthy narrative poems such as Don Juan & Childe Harold's Pilgrimage & for the short lyric, She Walks In Beauty. He is recognized as one of the greatest British Poets.
When it came, it was tarnished & dull looking but I polished it with my Dremel. The spot on the scale is glare. It has very little hone wear.

That is wonderful! How nice to have a completed collectible, and with such beautiful etching. Congrats!

Thank you very much. It took awhile but I got it. I have one more of those boxes but it isn't as nice as this one. I was lucky enough to get a decent enough looking razor to match it.

    Cool

No Pic's yet but I just picked up a W&B wedge with a pretty short stubby tail. The horn scales have been munched on but I am working on that. The blade appers to have been a 15/16 but it was hones & sharpened well.
The markings say Wade & Butcher, Sheffield & then there is the arrow pointing at the Maltese cross & the B on it's side in a circle. Big heavy razor! I am going to get some Elk horn from a neighbor who raises them. But then another neighbor has Texas long horns & I live in Illinois, go figure. Just have to see who has what.
Any ideas of the age of this neet old wedge?

We will obviously need pictures, but it seems like the mark involving the arrow and cross was not used until the later half of the 19th century.

A recovered Wade and Butcher I just finished putting together.
Predates the mandatory England stamp but not sure of it's specific age.

I used dark horn from the UK, shaped after another old UK blade I have and sanded as thin as I dared go, double stacked brass washers and pin, and ebony for the wedge.
I apologize for the linty pics, clearly I need a new microfiber cloth. ;-)
Used a single layer of tape on the spine during honing and the bevel is narrow and tight.
    (last pic is post honing).
Blades just shy of a full 8/8 and took an edge really, really well, hht passed with ease.
Looking forward to the test shave after work.
    Cheers gents.
