Yeah, there's like a cream you apply to a part that you don't want to get hot & it makes you able to heat the rest of the piece red hot w/o the other part of it with the cream on it which keeps it cool & you are able to bend or straighten the rest of it while it is red hot. I know some other members on here know what I'm talking about!

It looks really nice and you got it at a good price. I wonder about the stamping along the tang, there is hone wear there and the words still show through but they seem to be lost where the hollow is ground out making me think it might be reground as they wouldn't have done that originally. The height of the stabilizer grind is lower than the grind of the blade hollowing also suggests regrinding, a good job if so. Getting a close look will be more revealing. Super clean, all it will need is a light polishing and honing to get her going.

Thanked: 0Wade & Butcher Find
I picked up a very good Wade & Butcher Magnum Donum this weekend. slightly over an Inch across the plade.
It is marked with a crown and W.R. so it should be from 1830-1837. Except a small nick on the blade it looks to be in good condition.
The scales are cracked and probably needs to be replaced.
My question is, how you would treat this on?. Leave it as is, (the patina adds to it in my opinion) or try to polish it up? if i try to polish it up I would loose the etching on the blade as faint as it is.
