Pictures don't do it justice, it's dead nuts original. Never even been unpinned. Not so much as one bite or nibble on the scales. Pins are tight, blade is centered perfectly, and the patina is consistent and honest. I absolutely adore it . I set out to find the best, most original example I could find, and this jumped into my lap. Felt like I'd rocked the PowerBall. The only thing I've done to it besides a touch up hone is to rub down the blade and scales thoroughly with Renascence Wax. That's all I intend to do.
When I obtained this FBU the previous owner told me it was sharp to his standards, but no guarantees for anyone else. So when I got it I ran it for a few strokes on an SG20K and stropped her up. Took a few strokes, and it was as sharp as a new DE blade. Right at the point of being harsh. Ran it for about 10 laps on 0.25 micron CrOx sprayed linen, and it's smooth as baby butt now.
I've been shaving with J-Wests for so long now, I'd forgotten how much fun it it to shave with a big wedge .!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.

Agreed - I know it's all in my head, but there's a certain magic in the old Sheffields that never ceases to amaze me.
As soon as I saw that one, knew that was the real deal - astounding how something that old can still look that good, and function as it was designed - the history that blade has lived through, and the faces and hands it may have touched.
Congrats and that one, beautiful!

A 9/8 FBU as found in the first 2 photos and cleaned up in the last 2. It has never been apart. A bit on the big side for me but delivers a wow shaving experience.
